Wife and I left the house this morning at about 9 AM.  Swung by the grocery store and loaded up the ice chest with cold soda and snacks. Then we headed out for the Gopher patch.  Got back to the house about 5:30 this evening.  We hunted gophers all day. I shot 185 rounds. The wife says she had to reload twice, that's 200 rounds. (Ten 10/22 magazines) For me that's 500 round so far this season.

I got me me two triples.  Wife got a pair of doubles.

I also caught my wife in a fishermans lie. She spotted a gopher and took aim and balsted it...It was so small I am almost positive I saw it lick the milk from lips just before she shot it.  She made a good shot on it and I asked how far, "20 yards!" she said rather emphatically. "10 maybe 12 yards top!"  I said.  I got the laser  range finder out and it was 13 yards.  Fun toy that laser range finder.

At one point she was wanging away at group of babies gophers sitting around a mound. She fired three shots and three gophers in a row went down.  I got the range finder out and the gophers were 96 yards away.  I walked down to hole to check and verify her kills and all three were head shot...Impressed me. All in all me and my favorite hunting partner had a great day. My longest shot was 114 yards, center of mass.

The dogs got out and chased gophers and caught a few. The are getting old and slowing down.  Seems to be a lot of that in this house.  They still seemed to enjoy themselves also, slept all the way home and are sleeping under my desk right now.

Well.... some guys have all the luck . Nicest day of the spring and I had to do family errands. Mother is in Hospital my Wife had an eye appointment , Son in law needed a truck run to seed plant for seed , I got to do the whole day running errands .  I did throw in the Savge 93 17HMR when I went to the sil ranch , darn cows were all in the line of gophers . Took the seed truck to Seed plant 40 + miles away , paid mothers bills , wasted the rest of day waiting for seed to be cleaned . Left the rifle @ ranch or could have shot a few out behind the seed plant . Got the truck back to Ranch by 7PM , Loaded Air drill with seed , and back to my hunting rig .Battery dead ,  by the time we got it jumped and down the road to no cow gopher patch , they mush have decided it was bed time   >:(
Ah well  tomarrow is suposed to be a better day . ;D

Looks like you had a fine day D D , nice pile of coyote meals ready to eat .  ::) or MREC as it is known

Good Evening Montana!

Was wondering where you were today, Double D. Now I know. ;) Give the wife a big Congrats for the great shooting.

Sounds like you were pretty busy too Southpaw.

I'm going to my private range tomorrow if it's not raining.

You folks have a great rest of the weekend.
Mike

Good evenning everybody,
Today, I did some fishing and shooting.  I was able to do a 444 bullet test. I think the pic clearly shows satisfactory performance.  The shot was a double lung shot with a bulllet pass through. No meat wasted in front quarters and backstraps werent hurt.   Shot was off hand at 40 yards.
Double D, that sure looks like you and your wife had a great day of shooting.  Three tripples huh?  Those vermin must be over-runnin the place.
Gotta git'me a bigger ice box

Just saying Hi.   Im a neighbor not far away in north Idaho.  I stop in and see what you guys are up to quite a bit.  I find your tales and lifestyle a lot like mine.   My residence is north of Hayden Lake but I have some property and a cabin near Clark Fork ID, about a mile from the Montana line.  I spend a lot of time at the cabin and I wander through that corner of your state quite often.   Looks like some nice weather coming.  Those critters will be poppin out of the ground all around you....

Looks like a real fun day Double D!  I know some people that used to brag about 5-700 yard shots on game that haven't been shooting near as far after they got their rangefinders. ::)  Now it seems like all I hear them talk about is 150-200 yards. ;)  Being a cabbie this morning, MIL went to work at 8, 3 house guests went to work at 9 and 15 year old boy goes at 11.  Glad the gas is (only ???) 2.299 for reg and the same price for diesel here in Billings.  Just took a dime jump this week, gotta get it up there for the holiday, ya know. >:(  Later friends.  DP  PS: Sorry guys, this is Sunday.
