Not that I am aware of. There is a section that tells you how to tell the difference between a SB2 frame and an SB1 frame however.

Only for the serial number prefix to determine year of manufacture and pics of the difference between SB1 and SB2 as LaOtto said.

Thanks, what would the year of manufacture be for prefix and serial number HU 254xxx?  It's a Ultra Hunter 25-06 SB2.

Please look it up in the FAQs and Help sticky, use control F to search the page, lots of good info in there for Handi newbies.  ;)

Quick:

I believe the list needs to be updated.  I got a receiver that has CAC and when I called the Handi number in the good-'ol FAQ, the guy confirmed that CAC was a new prefix.

Inquiring minds want to know. . .

Whut?  ??? You got that backwards Kurt, ALL H&R Ultras up until just recently had  H* prefixes, it wasn't until just the last couple years that they quit using the N* prefix and started marking even Handis with H* prefixes.  ;)

I guess I'm a little confused on the Ultra part. But I thought I just read that the handi's went to the H in 2007. When did NEF come on board? Wern't they mostly N's for lots of yr's . You know me I've been wrong before ;)Kurt

Since H&R1871 came into existence in 1987, H&R has traditionally been their "premium" line of products to include the nicer Ultras with laminated stocks, BCs and Toppers, and the entry level plain jane products being the Handis, Sportsters and Pardners. Then in about 2007, they started marking H&R on Handi frames, and they now have dropped the NEF line entirely except for the imported shotguns, you'll find NEF hardly mentioned, and the NEF logo absent from their home page.
