gents i need to know what scope rings to install on the handi ultra varmint rifle.....204 scope touches barrel also where can i find a hammer extension for it as well didnt come with one and the scope rings are needed to shoot it /break it in so i need scope ring ideas and hammer extension info any one know where to find this stuff

Spend some time in the FAQs and Help sticky, you'll find your answers there!!

The hammer extension should have come with the rifle if you bought it new in box, you can call H&R and have them send you one if it wasn't in the box, should have been in a plastic envelope stuck to the inside packing cardboard. Uncle Mike's makes it, they can be bought locally or order on the internet as well as from H&R, toll free (866)776-9292.

thanks for the quick reply now i have a big issue with my ultra varmint H&R .204 it has the skeleton stock on it, and the add for it i saw, said the stock was adjustable? i do see a round wheel knob, on bottom of stock. i assume for the vertical adjustments at the shooting bench, now my question? ? Is there any way to make the stock longer by adjustment,?? if not oh well but i did think it was adjustable in length as well as height

The stock is adjustable by removing or adding spacers. Contact Choate for more spacers which are in front of the recoil pad, they're available in ¼", ½" and ¾".

I milked cows up your way when I was a kid, fell in love there too, killed my first deer there....a lot of good memories. I'm related by marriage to Terry Byrne. He's gone off to Wisconsin, and I think is still dairy farming.

I almost threw away the hammer extension when I bought my first factory new Handi. It's taped inside the box flap....a dumb idea cause you can't see it. If you didn't chuck the box yet, look there.

good morning i own an ultra varmint H&R handi in .204 ruger fluted 24 inch barrel i have broken it in very slowly and have shot 40grain bullets with it (hates them) a group of 4 inches at 100 isnt what i had in mind,, i was a target shooter before i got this handi rifle H%R the rifle doesnt like 40s so i got hold of some 32 grain bullets factory hornady as is what i broke it in on was 40 grainers for the break in... it doesnt do anything like 2 1/2 at 100 at 50 yards with 40s is just ok,,, nothing to write home over, with 32 grain bullets it still is way off the mark from 2 1/2 more like 5-1/2 ill finish the 2 boxes of .32s i have left and then be <forced to send it back> to be tuned up!! and shot sighted at 100 yards by factory or replaced by them . im not at all impressed as my 22mag will at 100 shoot one ragged hole,,, far BETTER than the new 204 , i have a 6-18 power scope on the 204 i can read what the target has printed at the top at 100 i shoot from a very good solid bench ,bipod and in prone position,,, still can not dial this handi in its got my nerves on end ill bet i have a bad one right out of the box im hoping that H&R will look at it and fix it for me otherwise it will be sold as im not new to shooting i own many other rifles that make the 204 look very bad handy it is not..... very poor accuracy and not at all pleased with this rifle for the price i paid,, it could be lots better,, mine could have been made on fri or monday the two days of the week you dont want anything made anywhere

I would get back to basics first, check the scope rings and base, replace the scope with a known to be good scope, read the Handi basics 101 before blaming the rifle, read the thread below too.

and all i can get is.721 at 100 yrds can this rifle do any better?,i reload, spent all day yesterday shot over 100 rounds loaded some 5 different powders, fun i had, no kick the snot out of me, just the .204 and 3 types bullets,most times two shots tight almost touching... and one the (1nch away from the other two)factory says 2 1/2HA HA inches ,well what about the wood chuck at 375 i cant shoot em if im 7 inches right and 4 inches low now can i> ? i want to accurately load and shoot distance with this as a fun thing on paper and coyote shots in long hedgerows 300 hundred away here is the numbers .788 , .721 and this was where i said its all it can do guess i lack more info the .204 is so new that their aint munch about it like a 30/06 /243/270, good but can be bettered calibers the 204 lets me down,, in this rifle its not a rifle,,, at all its,, a gun !

I am having the same trouble with 2 touching and 1 away. I hoping that when things get broke in it will go away. I have not made it to loading for this one yet, as I got it in December and have only found 300 small rifle primers, I have been spending my reloading time on other projects. I also hope that with reloading it will go away. I have not determined if it is fowling or not yet. I have ruled out barrel heating so am leaning to fowling. Hopefully when I get a couple hundred threw it, it will smooth out real nice.

yep primers are hard to find i found 4 boxes for 5.50 each used to be 3.00... AT the sayrecuse gun show april 18 2009 i was very dissapointed at the show were all kinds of rifles shotguns yet very few parts for anything ,saw lots of savage 99s going for over 900.00 and guys were in line buying them up , very little ammo there at all really wasted my time drove over an hour and walked most of the day around and around found a guy who had some reloaded .204 50 rounds to a box i got them to break in my .204 handi in and then went to reloading after they were spent , now to find the magic load data , i feel ill be near 28 grains when i find the right powder as it seems to favor that amount in the case all the way to the neck ill now need to find me some bench rest primers they are what im told i should be useing and im not i use winchester small rifle and i have a few of the cci small rifle , i know i have abou the cheapest rifle on the block yet it has to shoot better than it does ill not keep it if it dont plain truth i have a 22 mag that will shoot out to 150 yards way better than the handi right now .the handi has maybe close to 250 rounds thru it and things look pretty good as for fouling im not getting much brass or copper fouling out of it at all the first patch after brush, solvent,looks nasty and but about five patches later the bore is spanking clean and rifle looks as did new with bore light ill keep shooting it for now hoping i can make a 3 shot group that is good not fantastic but good enough to hunt with out to 300 yards if it wont do that its bye bye rifle

say i notice after reading the things sent me i have found markings on barrel under fore stock 059 P is etched into the barrel

and that the synthetic material of fore stock is infact in need of some fine tuning to make it contact free of barrel how would i remove just enough to clear the barrel by shimming up under the screw or by removing a little dam little stock material ? im betting this may close that one off group im getting , would sand paper work or dremel tool

Matt do the trigger work in the site Quickdtoo sent u it will make a big difference,handi's are known for shoddy triggers.After all they are cheaap at just over 300$ can't expect them to shoot like a rem 700 vls either or a win mod 70.But it should still shoot 1/2 at least which is tolerable.

What I mean is a hand-scribed etch. Mine says 829 P, done by an etching pen, not a machine etch. The barrel must be in the break open position to see it, below the caliber marking. The rifle is model SB2SL5 .243, manuf in 2007 HX36...
