German made single shot rifle question?
« on: April 27, 2009, 04:43:38 AM »
What did I look at is the question?
Yesterday at the medcalf gun show in Oklahoma city a fellow was carrying around a German made single shot rifle that he was trying to sell very nice looking but he had no idea who made it or cal. other than 32. It looker like a low wall leaver action but when you pushed the leaver forward to open it you then had to lift a hinged block up that contained the firing pin and you inserted your shell into barrel lowered block and closed the leaver and you were ready to fire so does anyone have a guess as to what it was? I guess if I could read German I would have the answer.

Sounds like a cross between a Warnant patent Flobert and an Aydt, which as far as I know, does not exist. It would be nice to see a picture.

Did some checking on the net and found that it is called a lifting block action but it did not have the two leavers on side of barrel but a tang that lifted from center of barrel. I saw a picture of a Flobert rifle that looked a little like the one I saw but it had two leavers one on each side of barrel. guess I should have took a picture with my phone, oh well.

The Warnant patent Flobert I mentioined above was a german version of normal belgian "rolling block", and is characterised by the block lifting up and forward. But that still doesn't explain your comment about it having another lever somewhere.
I have seen a Warnant patent Flobert that was made by Stiegele in Munich.

Was back to the sooner gun show in oklahoma city today and there it was on the table with a price and name, 32 cal. Folbert single shot rifle 1895.00 or good offer, I thought it had a leaver action to open but I was wrong on that, it had a small bolt like on the side that you lifted up to open so now know what I saw.
