17 fireball range report
« on: April 27, 2009, 04:42:25 PM »
here is a target shot with the first two rounds out of my 17 fireball.  that was rechambered from a 17 HMR sportster by trotterlg.  shooting the remington factory 20 gr load at a hundred yards off the hood of the pickup its just a two shot group as the light ran out forgot to mention that it measures exactly an inch center to center.  and thanks larry

Nice shooting, but the only problem with those 17 Rem Fireballs is that they have so much recoil, you need to have a muzzle brake and a Limbsaver installed on the rifle to control it.  ;D ;D How does your shoulder feel, Mike?  ;D Seriously, the lack of recoil would seem to make the 17 Fireball nearly a perfect round.

yeah its bruised and numb like a range session with a 300 wby no it really is cool to be able to squeeze the trigger and see the bullet hit we shot a two liter bottle of water and the bullet hit before the gun cracked and you can see everything through the scope.

Now that sounds awesome. Looking forward to some more reports.

My Remington Model Seven Predator is shooting half inch groups at 100 using the Remington factory ammo with the 20 grain bullets. I'm sure yours can do even better than it has shown so far. The little Fireball is one nicely accurate round. Inside 300 yards whatever I see I can hit even a prairie dog head sticking out of the hole.

Graybeard,

You are contributing to the delinquency of an old geezer.  I had promised myself and the wife no more firearms this year.  Then I get to reading about the .17...............

But I can resist.  I'm strong that way........

I have a 17HMR Win Low Wall that could be redone to a 17 Fire ball. It would become something like my 6x47 producing a bucket full of empty brass which keeps staring into my face and trys to tell me something. Loading these wee cases with numb
fingers is not much fun either.

So I give up a few yards and shoot the 17HMR which is an extreamly accurate performer. I think the 17HMR is a wonderful
little cartridge and not too hard on your pocket book. :)
Of course it is not in the same class as the Fireball.

Any 17 is a finger pincher in the reloading department...

but ive done some figurig and not counting the cost of the brass from the factory ammo and dies i can reload 50 rounds for what 50 hmr cost and i found a deal on 80 rounds of ammo so it will last long enough and provide brass for a while it is fun to shoot though.
