416 Rigby, Ruger 1
« on: January 02, 2009, 04:16:03 PM »
My local gun shop has taken a Ruger 1 on trade in 416 Rigby.  Shells are awful expensive, but can they be "loaded down"?  I like my 45-70's, and thought this was such when I saw it on the shelf.  I can get a very good deal on the rifle, but don't need this much horsepower.  What think ye?  Would it be worth it to buy it and load down some cases?  I would have to take a bank loan to buy ammo.

BUY TODAY!  always wanted a 416 but... found a ruger #1 in 375 h&h wife said buy i said ill think about it and if i want it ill come back next week wife " someone else my take it"  me " how many people in this little town in maine want a singleshot 375 h&h"  answer...TWO, me and the fellow that got it.  that got be bit by the big bore bug, ended up with a 458 win mag and love it.  a couple of years ago i found 10 boxes of factory 375 for 10 buck a box. made me think " how many people in...".  should have got the ammo and then a gun to use it in.

Definetly reload your own!! You can load them down pretty far and use some lighter bullets (like .340gr woodleigh PP) this will help you get used to the recoil and become familiar shooting it alot...without getting beat up to bad. :'(

I have RCBS FL die set and NEW brass if intersted...Scott

I was a day late and a dollar short on this one.  After I had talked myself into it, someone had bought it.  No matter, my 45-70 is enough for me.

I just load up some 500 grainers for my 45-70 to the edge of max, and after a few shots, I've had enough anyway.  Whats fun is to load some "plinkers" to trapdoor pressures, and shoot them from the bench.  Then when someone else is interested, slip the hot stuff in.  I know, I'm a sadist.....

I reload the shells for my Remington 416. I found to buy them is very expensive  I reload them to 2420 FPS.
I use hornady 400gr bullets.
