On the mend..
« on: July 04, 2009, 11:32:40 PM »
  Don't recall if I mentioned it, but I've had a little run of events with the "sawbones". About a month ago, I had an episode of sickness come upon me for the third time in as many weeks..so I knew there was a problem. On a Sunday morning, had to go to Emergency room..then off to the big city hospital to get tubing from gall bladder roto-rooted out, back out on Tuesday with antibiotic regimine for 10 days (inflammation).
  So I went back last Monday & had the gall bladder removed..laproscopic..like 4 little bullet holes. They sewed me on the inside and glued me on the outside.
  Now I just have to learn what is good foraging for me and what is bad.. :D

 They usually claim that greasy foods bring on gall bladder attacks. From a few people I've known that had theirs removed they usually say they belch more after a meal after the surgery for some reason.

Yup. Herbivores don't show symptoms (it draws predators). They just fall over dead.

While my chloresteral numbers really were not that bad, I was telling the company doctor that I would continue to eat red meat even if it meant that I would only live to be 29. I believe that I was around 40 at that time and my statement made her madder n heck :o
I have actually not done bad since as our grain fed venision is delicious!...so good in fact that I may need to get a bear for the fat!

Hope and prayers that your healing goes well IG.  I haven't had a gall bladder for 28 years.  I eat what I want with no problems.  Take care.

  Again, thanks guys..
  Bill;
   Momma is doing well, being as she nearly made it to her final home an Christmas day last. She's doing quite well although she can't seem to stop losing weight. When she was in intensive care they starved her from regular food, so I guess her appetite went with it.
  She has shed those few pounds she has been fighting for the last 25 years..(and more) ;) I just hope she can halt that shrinking process.
     Although we both would like to stay among loved ones here a while longer, we have no fear of the other side. At our age, we have as many waiting over there as with us here..

  Thanks TM;
    The plumbing that runs from the gall bladder, plus a tubing from the liver that  "Ys" into it goes down to dump in the duodenum (just below the stomach). Mine had clogged up with "sludge" and had backed up enough to cause inflamation with the liver also.So they went down by tubes inserted through the mouth and cleaned out the tubing (roto-rooting, my term ;)). Then I went on antibiotics for a couple weeks to clear the inflamation, before surgery.
  The nurses topld me that when a gall bladder is filled with stones..the stones are the problem; but when it is filled with "sludge" (their word)..the gall bladder is in effect saying, " I quit, I'm closing shop..and I'm outta here!"  :D
  You may well have some truth in the fat thing. While I am by no means a vegan or total fat avoider, due to my cholestrol problem I do avoid any heavy fats, and I am no longer a "big" meat eater...At least not like I was when I was working at heavy labor every day..

My own health problems keep me watching this sort of thing. A guy I worked with (and I'm happy for the past tense) had his pulled, but kept over eating greasy foods (cakes and the like) and had the trots all the time. He also did not use a butt gasket and left a brown streak on the seat all the time, and he never washed it off (toilet brush was right there, too). Gross.

From what you're saying, a reasonable diet should not cause any problems, from they way he turned out, too much grease or oil is a real problem.
