357 Maximum brass
« on: April 12, 2009, 02:04:50 PM »
Just put in an order for 100 pcs. .357 Maximum brass and some bullets from Midway today.

It said it was in stock and the order went through.

Maybe I'm late on this, but they were out not long ago when I tried to order some, but they have it now, so thought I'd give everyone a heads up, in case you don't know!
My culled down Handi's are the 45-70, and then I have a few others to keep it company...357 Mag/Max. .45 LC/.454 Casull Carbine, .243 Ultra, and 20 gauge Tracker II.

What bullets did you order?  I've had 180gr XTP's on backorder for over a month.
If I agreed with you then we would both be wrong.

I loaded up about a 100 rounds with Hornady 180 grain XTP's the first time I handloaded and I've got a good load I use with 18.5 grains of IMR 4227 and I use that for deer, which I took a doe last season at 110 yards.

I'm going to load some 200 grain cast bullets just to see what they do.

Probably use them on hogs.

I just got 500 of these a couple of weeks ago (180 grain Remington). I do not think they are the best bullet for crunching bones, but I think they will work OK for rib/lung type shots - According to the reviews I was after lighter bullets for varmint and target shooting, but just about every thing in 158 grain and lower are out so I got the 180 grain, probably the best balace in a 357 Max for velocity and penitration. there are a few gas checked cast bullets still available, but they are not cheap, but should do a good job on deer as they have a flat wide nose tip. All of the following a available right now and should be good bullets for the 357 Max

These are not cheap either, but should do a good job of crunching bone - Barnes 140 XPB a copper bullet

OHhhh man,  I feel your pain.  I e-mailed Hornady to find out when they would be producing 180 XTP's and still haven't gotten a reply about that.  Are there any SRmag primers?  thay can be used if you drop the charge slightly.
