.375 Ruger
« on: April 16, 2009, 02:14:01 PM »
I like posting pics of my rifles so here I go.  This rifle was orginally a 7mm Rem Mag M70 XTR .  My .270 Win was too good of a game getter so I never warmed up to the 7mm RM, but I loved the wood so much I wanted to keep it.  I came across a deal on a A&B .375 blank so that pretty much set the caliber I was going to use.

I had the barrel countoured and cut to 24" instead of the normal 20-23" ruger uses.  I had an extra recoil lug dovetailed and sweated into the barrel, along with the action and barrel full length bedded.  I had everything done in a matte blue.

I went ahead and replaced the wooden caps on my cross bolts with ebony ones.  I had a used set of Williams sights installed on the barrel as well.  The bases are Weaver, and went with a Leupold VXIII 1.75-6X33 and QRW rings.  All together with gunsmith work and scope I'm still into this rifle less than what it would have cost for a new Ruger in this caliber.

I still have some stock work to do I want to thin out the forearm as it is a wide oval and doesn't really make for a great carry rifle.  I want to put a black decelerator pad on the stock as well.  I'm not really very good with this rifle yet as I'm still learning to handle the recoil, but it isn't as bad as I thought it was going to be stepping into my first large bore rifle over .358.
