38-55 at 500 yards
« on: April 04, 2009, 09:27:02 AM »
I did get a chance to day to try the 300 and 500 yard target:I have to say 12Wx20H did get 10 shots on paper after a few adjustment with the william FP rear peep set-up
I now have 136 clicks for 500 yard shot from the bench
Let see
20 clicks for 50 yard
24  "       for 100 yard
91 "        for 200 yard
101 "      for 300 yard
136  "      for 500 yard
group would be around 10" not to bad we did have a cross wind here and there  : I was very pleased with the turn at that distance

Lonewolf ... gonna try 600-800-900-1000yds?  The bullet will make there.
For get close - add 22 MOA to each yardage from the 500 setting

That 1000 yard shot should be good for a pee break during bullet flight. ;D

DP - Naw, the Target barrel will do it. Only 215 MOA with 45gr FFg and a Saeco 571 bullet @ 1189fps ;D
It's not the elevation that gets one in trouble, it's the windage.  But have to confess, it your looking for 10 in a row - forget it.
Did the same trip with a HiWall too - one hit using 43.5gr FFg and the Saeco 571.  The trick is to keep the bullet as much out of sub-sonic velocit as possible.

A couple of years ago, there was a picture of 8 out of 10 @ 1000yds on Shiloh Rifle forum.  And again, with black powder!

I think the IMR 3031 with 28  grains have the fps to reach out compared to BP loads
My hunting load is 31 grains of IMR 3031 :I am going to up the charge this spring I would like to see if she will handle 34 grain which should increase my FPS to 1700 and not have any barrel leading.
