...As a matter of fact, I took my .223 out after ground squirrels this last weekend, and went through about 150rds...

150 rds - Wow!  I know a lot of folks that would have 150 dead ground squirrels.  How many'd you get?

Unfortunately not 150.  This is a new barrel, I had sighted it in on a nice day, and it was firing well.  I had loaded some 50gr Varmint Grenades hoping they would stabalize (Barnes recommends 1 in 10 twist, I have a 1 in 12 barrel).  At the range everything looked good with these.  As I was shooting, I would notice they would hit around the squirrels a lot.  Anyway, I had some JHP that were hitting the same spot, and those were like a laser (I think I missed twice out of the 60 or so of those I shot).  I also had some FIOCCHI 40gr V-MAX that once I figured out the hold were phenomenal shooters.  I did shoot out the rest of the varmint grenades (took about 50), to reclaim the brass.  Also put some FMJ out (same POI as the JHP) and those did a good job.  Overall, I probably put around 100 animals down, it was a bit of a slow day, overcast and when the wind blew, they would drop down for 20-30 minutes, so you would sit and wait (on a good sunny spring day, you can shoot as much as you want with targets everywhere, usually take 2-3 rifles so they stay cool on days like that).

Good news is, this bbl should be broken in now.  As soon as I can round out small rifle primers, I am going to try and get a load developed for it (primers are also what is holding me back on my 357Max right now, and my 460 S&W (barrel that came with the encore also)).

and just because you are not, does not mean nobody is.  My first statement on this thread ( and I knew I would regret getting started ) was -  without other info ...

But, too many stories from too many different places and sources exist for me to believe that it is not happening.

I am sure that hoarding is happening, always has, always will.  However, 2K is not even close to hoarding.  I would look at that as a normal purchase.  Heck, with tax refund season upon us, if I could I would try and stock up for the next year, would love to pick up around 10K small rifle, 5K large rifle, and probably a few K each of the small pistol, and large pistol magnum.

I would not call it hoarding but (preparation) There is no such thing as hoarding. With the action of buying we know that people are thinking about the what if. Every man to my small opinon should be trying to establish a food supply that will last him and his family at least a few months and also supplies he thinks he may need.
What was done during WW2 on the supply side for civilians was unconstutional but it set a precident that they will exploit every chance they get.

Many individuals thought and think

1) They will take our guns away

2) They will ban assault weapons

3) Ban big magazines

4) Tax ammo more

5) Close gun show loopholes

6) Reduce gunsmiths etc.

There is no question more guns and ammo are being sold especially foreign military and ammo.

At one smaller online gun dealer and distributor they sold in 10 days after the election a half years worth of guns and almost a years worth of ammo and were essentially sold out. They had posted this on their web site at the time.
I would say that is hoarding.

I personally believe that aliens from the Delta quadrant are coming to take our guns. Where is the Enterprise when you need it?

When gun sales have doubled and more over a period of two months that is hardly hoarding, that is doubled gun sales.  Concealed carry permits are up 75% to 100% over last year in some areas, that indicates there will be massively increased demand for both factory ammo and handloading components.  That is not hoarding.  People are scared as they well should be and more people than ever are buying guns and ammo.  Hardly hoarding.  Ammo manufacturers use the same primers and bullets we do and as demand is up, they are buying more.  Again, not hoarding, trying to meet demand.

The fiddytooers handed us the most progressive communist administration in the Nation's history.  All we need to do to calm things down is to vote for conservative candidates in the coming mid term elections, taking away the Democrat American Communist Party's majority, then in the next Presidintial election vote in a conservative candidate and get rid of the current Commander in Thief.  Contact your Senators and representatives and let them know your feelings.  Even the current crop of Democrats American Communists had to be elected.  If we get off our collective butts and actually, ya know, do something we can turn this around.

Let's review:

1) Ammo supplies have been somewhat tight for years due to war demands.  In fact about two years ago ammo plants in Idaho asked high schools to allow students to intern at the ammo plants because they could not keep up with demand.

2) Guns are flying off the shelves because people are concerned (rightly or wrongly) about future restrictions.  More guns equals more demand for ammo.

3) Frustrated with their lack of success in restricting guns, the anti-gun crowd is focusing more and more of restricting ammo sales.  The natural result - more demand for ammo.

4) The cost of raw materials used is ammo continues to rise, providing an additional incentive to people to "stock up", causing - guess what?  More demand for ammo.

It is the shortage of ammo that leads to the shortage of reloading equipment and components.

I don't think we need any more than the above to create our current supply problems.

Although Obama is clearly radically anti-gun, in many ways we are in better shape than ever before. 80% of states have must issue concealed carry. There are solid pro-gun majorities in both houses.  The Heller decision has established for the first time that the 2nd Amendment protects a personal right.  This right will almost certainly be applied to the states - and probably extends much further than just handguns.  The anti-gun crowd may have hung themselves by stressing the 2nd Amendment's militia component - because this may provide a solid basis to extend protection to so called "assault weapons".  The last thing the anti-gun crowd wants to do is pass a law that will result in a challenge that extends Heller - they have to be very careful.  Thank God Heller did not go the other way!

Just my $ .02 worth.

Some of this can be attributed to GREED by our own.  I was in a local Gander Mountain today and just happen to see a fellow loading his buggy with a bunch of primers, everything on the shelf.  They were magnum pistol primers.

In general conversation, I mentioned how hard some products are to locate and he informed me that Gander must have just got this supply of primers in, because no one could find magnum pistol primers any where locally.  Without prompting he told me he could triple his money on the primers because a lot of folks were looking and would pay whatever because they were scarce.

Go figure.

Unsettled times are coming legislatively for gunowners given the recent events!!  If you know someone that is going thru rough times financially or otherwise get them some help.

This is from a report on the BBC not even the US.

my distributor says, because i sell ammo. in the future, i will have to account for every round, box, case i sell....  thats more paper work for me and more time wasted for the customer...
and it might require a back ground check for the buyer!!!

same goes for powder and bullet sales..
right now i just found 60lbs of a perferd powder that some of my customers have been waiting on for months....little costly for the hazmat, but the product price is not that much more that the (before)

and thats the limit i can get 60lbs of each type....ffl only.
glad i stocked up on bullets and new brass, primers when i did.
reloading dies are getting scarce.... backlogged from everywhere...
