Remington 513 T
« on: May 08, 2009, 05:59:06 PM »
I have a problem--a friend of mine passed away a few years ago--and last week his wife called me to help her sell some of his gun collection. He had 3 Remington 513T target rifles. Frankly--I have never heard of them, they must have been priced out of my money range when I was growing up or something.

In good shape what is one worth? and are they any good to begin with?  Most of his guns I don't have a problem with, but I am at a loss with these 3, I would appreciate any information you guys can give me. I know that they were made from around 1940 to 1968, that is the extent of my knowledge of them.
Thanks;

Excellent old rifles but not much in demand these days. Are they the heavy barrel or lighter barrel version and with or without the Redfield receiver peep sights? I know a couple folks who used to shoot them locally and they are superbly accurate old rifles. Locally I've never seen one go for more than $200 and most for less dunno what the market is in your area or nationally either for that matter.

Two of the rifles have peep sightes--one has a scope mounted on it.  Two have heavy barrels and one has a bit of a taper to it, but it is a lighter barrel.  At Cabella's here in the St. Louis area they have prices on their used ones going from $275 to $350---just got back from Cabella's--so that is the only reason I know, but Cabella's is usually high on their used guns in my opinion. They only had 2.

Thanks for the reply.

Yeah those prices would be high around here but as I said I dunno about other places. Which type peep is on it can also matter. I've seen the Redfield sights like I have a couple of still around here I think go for as high as $100+ all by their self but there was another cheaper one that was put on some 513s and 521s that don't add nearly the same value and are I think more typical of what is normally found on them.

Scoped it would I think have had to have been modified by drilling at tapping if I recall correctly which my best friend Billy Doss (now deceased) did to his. It will lower the value to most but if ya really want the maximum accuracy from one it helps to be scoped. Billy used an old Redfield 10X or maybe it was a 12X scope I had sold him for his. With that combo in his hands not many folks around here were going to outshoot him in the matches we shot.

Try the CMP site,  I bought an ex miltary 513t it is amazing how accuarte it is having been made in '43 and released from the US Gov't just a couple of yrs ago. You should get some straight answers on their forum about the 513t.   I have never seen a 513t for sale, one shop had a 521t and wanted 425.00                                                                  http://www.odcmp.com/

I really don't know what brand of peep site is on the rifles--will have a look when I next go into St. Louis to see them.  Thanks again for the reply--I may have to see about buying the one with the scope for myself.

I'll check out the CMP site, I need some figues to put on the rifles, then see how or who I can either sell them too, or let sell them. The next decent gun show in this area isn't going to be held until Nov. 7 and 8 of this year. My friends wife may wait until then to move the guns, but that is getting into my hunting season. At that time of year I like to be out using guns instead of trying to sell them.
