410 Stub...What rifle calibers
« on: March 17, 2009, 04:22:31 PM »
I've been thinkin' too much again. ;D Just wondering what common rifle calibers could be made using a 410 barrel for the stub.

Anything that is low pressure or a small diameter case like a 17 Remington FB.  Larry

Larry what is the easiest shotgun barrel to use in a stub project? Have you ever heat treated the stub after you cut it down?
CM I didn't mean to high jack your thread, good to see you still around these parts. I have been gone a little while.

I like to start with a 20 gauge, it takes less machining than a .410 and it is easier to find a barrel large enough in diameter to use without making up other parts than a 12 gauge is.  I have gotten a few drills to speed the boreing process, one for a 12 gauge and one that does a 20 gauge or a .410.  A .410 will work with what ever you want to build but may take a little more time.  This one was made up using a 410 and the taper on the origional barrel fit the new .32 barrel perfectly.  Larry

Thanks guys, I really didn't have anything specific in mind, mostly just tossin' ideas around in my head.

Yep, still around Aaron.  Finally gettin' a chance to be on more often.  Had a pretty busy winter while I was pullin' Daddy Duty with my grandsons, since Thanksgiving.  Daughter's husband took off Thanksgiving weekend and things have been pretty crazy since then.
