new barrel for me...
« on: February 12, 2009, 06:35:32 AM »
so I picked up a new 6.8 barrel that's 23".  It's a bull barrel.  Will I need a special forend for the bull barrel?  Also, I want to have it cut back to about 17" -18" inches by a competent gunsmith.  Does anyone know one in Kentucky.  I can have it mailed out if necessary though.

I would assume that since it is a 23" barrel it is a newer TC factory made barrel?  If so the G2 forend will fit with no issue.

Why do you want to lose so much steel on it? I have a 23" barrel and find it works fine for me, but I am a bit odd at times!

two reason... one, the 6.8 was designed for short barrels.  That's not the real reason though.  I shot a guy's carbine in .357 a while back and it had the handiest feel to it.  This will make a really nice, short rifle.  I'll put the youth stock on it and my wife/kids will be better able to use it.  With the short barrel my youngest will be better balanced too.  Just seems like the thing to do...  Who can account for taste, eh?

anybody that installs muzzle brakes, or makes t/c bbls can cut it back.

Yup, but I since I'll be home on leave in March/April I was hoping someone would know a gunsmith near Lexington that could help me out while I'm there vice mailing it out.  I don't want the local "shade-tree gunsmith".  I want a quality job and a match type crown.
