My Hern English swivel has a hefty liner. I'll say this though; their website (at least the one that keeps coming up for me) has the English swivel described as: 1 5/8" bore, 104 lbs., 1 1/2" trunion, 30" length.

Somewhere else on the net, I saw somewhere, someone, somehow, wrote-up that they offered a 1 3/4" bore, 90 lbs., 1 1/2" trunion, 30" length.

Hern concurred and I placed my order.

Before it arrived, I forged my trunnions for the noted 1 1/2".  One should never do that; should one?  A bird in the hand is worth two in the bush.

I'll tell you why: They came through @ 1 5/8" not 1 1/2".  Actually, they should have been 1 3/4" but that became moot.

I wrote Joel Brown (sales) and he replied that they were/are 1 3/4"

Maybe his is....... but mine isn't.

He also added in his E-mail that he had actually just checked the weight and stated that it is 81 lbs., not 90 lbs..

So, go figure!

As a by-the-by, I measured the liner @ 24".

I understand that Hern supplies Dixie. (?)

I guess that I am satisfied?  I needed the extra few inches or I would have gone to Dom Carpenter. Now in retrospect (hind sight is always better), I'll bet Dom could have turned the additional inches separately and welded them to the butt end.

I'm not the brightest bulb on the tree.

Lionspaw , The web site has two differant specs as you noted . One is on the spec sheet and one is on the price list . As for the bore they are now GB size .

Plus they are only 400 bucks instead of the price sheet shows .

That would make a dandy DAR cannon .

Rocklock: $482.15 with UPS shipping to the arm-pit of creation in the mountains of NY. Shipping might be less wherever you are?

I see Rickk has again posted a picture of his. When I first noticed it in a post early last year, I had asked about it when I was looking for information. I thought at the time that it might have been a Hern. That's it, frying his wife's tomatoes. There is no I.D. with the image. I assume the mortar is a Hern too?

I guessed he was happy, so I took the chance and ordered mine.

The barrel is approximately 1000 lbs and the carriage is approximately 1000 lbs, hence the 1 ton.

shipping to Colo. was 20 bucks less . I thought the mountains in NY were pretty ?

Did you opt for the "Dolfins" ?

I have one and you are right.  The weight is not conducive to taking out to the range just any old time.  Just taking seven to eight mortar shells means transporting 315-360 lbs not counting the boxes they're in.  They are fun to shoot, and if a person had their own range where they could leave it set up that would be ideal.

Yup, both the Carronade and the Mortar are 2.25 inch Herns.

I like the fact that they are the same caliber... one ball mold works in both, one blank charge works in both, one set of implements work in both.

Rocky: No dolphins. They wouldn't work for what I am doing.

Mountains are nice but my dentist is 125 RT and MD is 125 RT in the opposite direction.  Groceries and real shopping is 150 RT once a month.  Tuesday is an ice storm and I have to drive 125 mi. in it for an MRI.  But yes, the landscape is nice and really nice if you are still in your 60's  8)

A one ton mortar?  I like Dom's Dictator better. I have my sights set on one. My cars don't even weigh one ton. My Scion XB is made by Lego.
