204 NEF vs H&R
« on: February 05, 2009, 12:41:59 PM »
I just purchased a NEF in 204 cal, but on the gun itself says H&R? now are these rifles the same??? And while I'm asking are there barrels out there that are interchangable with this rifle, as I see there is some other cal. of barrels for sale or is that for certain models?   thanks Darrell (newbie to this site )

Welcome Newbie.  H&R and NEF equals same thing. The NEF name is going away now that REM owns them.

Most of the barrels will fit your rifle but you need to check you SN in the FAQs and it will tell you for sure, There is a ton of info there spend some time in there and you'll learn alot. The handies are addictive in a love hate sort a way If you like them you gotta have more and even some of the guys that don't like them hang around here for the entertainment.  Stay awhile. 8)

Darrell
I have a 204 and your gonna love that gun and caliber --do the 101 and FAQs and have fun getting it right. Mine started grouping good after around 30 rounds and a friend of mine just broke one in (204) and he was doing 4 8)" groups at 200yds after 16 rounds. If I can offer some advice I would stay with the 32gr v-max (Hornady) or the 32gr accu-tip (Remington)  Some owners have barrels that like the 40gr but the 1-12 twist is a little marginal for that weight.

When entering this website you will see a catagory or heading NEF/H&R Centerfire--under this you select NEF/H&R talk--you will then see a section of highlighted sites one of which is FAQ's & Help Please read.  It along with the 101 site give a wealth of info and good advice to the Handi owner.
