Taurus barrel thread pitch?
« on: February 05, 2009, 04:04:52 PM »
I just ended up with a Taurus 669. There are a bunch of bullets jammed in the barrel, and the cylinder end is buggered up. I'm going to set back the barrel one turn to try to clean it all up. Can't figure out what the barrel pitch is. Seems to be 13.5 mm. Brownells, Midway, and a few other places I called didn't know and did not offer taps of dies. Anyone know what the thread is and where to buy a tap and die?
thanks,
-Armen

Are you saying that someone repeatedly shot that and jammed bullets in the barrel?  I've seen one other handgun like this in the past, and that was a Colt Python 6" that had 13 stuck finally causing the top strap to rupture when a .357 cartridge was used.  I know DUMB..... The guy that owned it had it x-rayed and his friend paid for a new one.

Anyway, have you called Taurus Customer Serice yet to speak to a gunsmith at Taurus.

Hey Montana, will you give me the CS number?  I've never written it down and the filter here at work won't let me connect to their site.   :-[

Thanks!   :)

I actually got the bullets out. There were in fact six bullets in the barrel. Don't know why the gun didn't blow up. So, the moron empties out the gun in to the barrel, and the last round is stuck halfway into the barrel. He reached into the barrel-to-cylinder gap and saws the bullet with a hacksaw. Of course he cuts the face of the cylinder and the back of the barrel.
I drilled through the rounds from both ends. Then I heated the cylinder until all the lead poured out. I then picked and pulled and drifted out the copped shells.
The bore doesn't look that bad. I will have to cut off the back of the barrel at least one, probably two turns to bring it back enough to be able to cut it straight.
Never a dull moment : )

I know that you did not ask but could not help myself . Betcha he was firing reloads . He either completely left the powder out or nearly so . The pistol did not blow because there was not enough pressure .   My 2 bits !
