Unhappy Handi owner needs some advice.

I bought a handi about a year ago 243 with a 22" bull barrel. second time out to the range the barrel catch broke and the gun wouldn't open. You can't buy a barrel catch so i sent it in to get fixed. to my surprise 3 weeks later i had it back (HAPPY). I opened the box and found that the wood was all beat to hell and the metal was scratched up (NOT HAPPY). I called them up and they sent me a new stock. I put the new stock on and went to the range. On the first shot it opened up and still opens on every shot. so i went from a gun that wouldn't open to one that won't stay closed. Does anyone know why this is happening? you would think a headspace problem but it didn't do it before i sent it to be fixed. It looks cool so maybe I'll just hang it on the wall and buy a stevens bolt action to shoot. I'm sure not going to send it back to H&R.

I haven't had this problem myself, but it is covered in the FAQs at the top of the forum page.
use control F to open a search window and if I recall correctly, type in "pop open medicine".

Not that uncommon with the higher intensity chamberings and usually easily fixed.
Don't sweat it too much, we will fix you up!!

No problema! Just follow the "pop open medicine" in the FAQ's like the
Westbound said. Had the same issue with my 223 for a brief moment. I
gave it some pop open medicine and it hasn't happened again in almost
400 rounds.

My .243 Ultra used to pop open on every shot. After applying some of the tips listed in "pop open medicine" it will only pop open on neck resized brass. Full length resized or factory brass shoots great! Hope you get it figured out.
