You could probably use a youth sized buttstock also.
I think there is a youth set on the classified's now.

Good and bad.  I used it for my son when he was shorter( smaller than youth when fully collasped) and will probably use on my youngest if I have too, but that said it did become very loose somehow.  I think the bolt hole is oversized or just very soft.  You can move the stock vertically  from the frame.  And mine did not come with a rubber removable butt pad that others say is supposed to come with it.  For the price I would look for a used one here, and not pay $50 for a new one.

Good Luck hope this helped.

I bought one for a Rossi single shot  7.62x39 that i picked up for the neices to learn on and hunt with ... Like Jerry ,It was perfect fully colapsed and extended allowed me to sight it in and use it from time to time ... A little play in the butt stock butt not much , Mine didnt have the rubber butt pad either .

If you are wanting to make it compact for hiking or crawling through the thick stuff , it works ... For young small framed kids it works there too ...

Now if you are wanting it to Look Tacticool  I would pass (Doesnt look that Cool) ... A good look to the H&Rs is the survivor and varmint series furniture ..

      Hope that helps a little,

I bought my nephew a .223 handi last year and we put an ATI collapseable on it so we could shorten it now and lengthen it as he grows.  Seemed to work really well. We haven't had any problems with it. I would highly recommend one.
