I wanted a 28" Shikari in 45-70 as I had read that these were considered as great cast bullet shooters. I also read some interesting stuff on one of these rifles used on a Buffalo hunt in Kansas (one shot kill!!). SO.....after loading up 50 rounds of 5 various 45-70 loads I am VERY excited to get to the range (if the snow ever melts) and shoot some Black Powder.........BECAUSE.....; on Thursday, I picked up my "new" 1984 H&R Shikari 28" in 45-70 ;
A quick check of the serial number reveals its birthday in 1984; and I refer to it as "new" as this rifle was advertised as being, and in fact, appears to be, "like new, unfired?". As I bought it at "auction" I have no
real proof aside from obvious condition and the selling dealers 'opinion' (he had it on consignment) .....but.....I have taken it apart and aside from a few very small marks/mars on the wood, ( I assume form handling over the years) the rifle is in as new or new condition. Dry of oils, free of any rust and with a VERY bright bore.
One 'issue' is the trigger pull which is HEAVY compaired to my 38-55 Target Classics's. Those triggers are 'almost' too light, but oh so smoooooooth

, so a little work here is in order. Also I'm going to install my 1874 Buffington Rear sight on this rifle to keep with the "Trapdoor" look and retain the folding rear leaf sight for hunting. So I am now well on my way to my goal of having one of each H&R rifle suitable for BPCR shooting. Next up

....maybe a 45 Long Colt
