I just picked up my gun today. the serial number starts with an HU so I am assuming by the info that it was made in 2004 (even though it was sold new in 2006). the gun is spotless. I did notice that the forend stock is right tight to the barrel. i tried slipping a business card in there and there was no way you could do it. I doubt you could get normal paper. That said, should I know follow the FAQs to try and get that space in there?

Congrats!! I'd shoot it the way it is and see how it does, but I'd get right over to your nearest WalMart and pic up some Win White box 45gr JHP ammo, it should shoot very well in your 1:12" twist barrel.  ;) You may need to polish the chamber and/or do the BB trick on the ejector to eliminate sticking brass tho, so be prepared, while your polishing, do the bore too, see the thread down the page on JB and Flitz.  ;)

Fire (shoot) for effect first, only then make changes as required. Congratulations on a fine gun....<><....:)

Thanks guys. I am real excited about this gun. It is my first varmint gun. I lucked out with a real smooth trigger. Guessing around 3lbs. I am happy I got the 1:12 twist as my plan is 45-50 grain rounds.

While you're at Wally world, check out the Centerpoint Mil-dot scope, that's what my UV wears...
Take your cleaning rod to the range - my ejector sticks a case now and then. It's infrequent enough that I just live with it, the rod lives in my gun case...
+1 on the Winchester white box varmint rounds.  Excellent round in my gun.  For long shots (300+ yards), or windy days, mine likes the Winchester black box 55 grain ballistic tips.  Pricey in comparison to the white box, but ya gotta pay to play.
Always dally thumb up

I haven't had a chance to shoot it yet. it is 15 below zero here and the wind is 25mph. I did find that one side of the forestock was very tight so I took out some sand paper and cleaned it up. i can now pass a business card around the whole stock freely to the screw post. Can't wait to see how it shoots.

DsrtRat,
That's a good place to start from! What kind of scope do you have on it?

I just put a Bushnell Banner 3x9x40 on it. In trying to keep my initials costs down, I found this scope had good reviews for the price.

hoping to shoot it on monday.

Well, I couldn't stand it anymore. It is colder than hell here and the wind is honkin but I had to shoot the new gun. i had about 40 minutes before my kids needed to get to a birthday party.

I borrowed a prone harris bi-pod from a buddy, got into my heavy winter gear and laid right down in the snow to shoot. Had to time my shots between shivers LOL :D

Anyhow here's how it went. Started out with a clean gun. Just using 55 grain Winchester USA FMJs 55gr. to break in the barrel. No oil or grit where it should not be. I cleaned it up very carefully last night and did some sanding on the fore-stock to float the barrel. With gun shop bore sight on the newly installed scope, I started at 25 yards. Got it on target. Was happy with the groups. I backed it up to 100 yards. First two shots were about 2.5 inches apart on a horizontal line and high. I made an adjustment and fired 3 more shots. My first shot was a 2 inches high and slightly left. I knew when the trigger broke that I was off target. The next two were bang on for height and about 1 inch apart, and 1.5 inches to the left. (obviously need to adjust right)

In total I fired eleven shots out the gun in about 35 minutes. I did not clean in between (will clean it now and do another 10 shots or so).

That was all the time I had as I needed to play chauffer for my kids.

I can say that I am very happy with the way this gun shoots. The ejector worked every time. The previous owner had fired about 20 rounds through it so essentially, it is right out of the box. As I got more comfy with it (as comfy as one can get in these temps), the groups started to tighten up. I seem to have a little left/right issue as most groups where my form felt good, were 1/2" up and down but spread out a touch L and R. Considering the weather and my getting used to shooting prone, I feel very confident that this will be a great little yotee gun. I will be putting a full length harris bi-pod on it and will also be building a nice thumbhole stock for it.

The next day we have where the wind is not 20mph, i will spend some more time geting it dialed in but at least I know that I can trust it for coyotes in the meantime.
