I'm looking at buying a 1851 (4 5/8) from Cimmaron but having a hard time finding a holster. I have a cavalry flap holster that would work but I'm looking for something a little compact.

Will this fit in a holster made for the rugers or colt clones?
I probably don't want to use a true molded holster...rather more of a universal one.

I carry my SAA, 1875, opentop, 1851, and 1851 conversion all in a slim jim design without any problems. I used to also carry my 1860 and 1858 in the same holster untill I got one one half inch longer. None ever fell out but the 8 inch guns were a little looser.

It will rattle like a golf ball down a rain gutter in a holster designed for a Ruger, or it will sit so far into the holster that the barrel will hang out the bottom.  Get a slim jim holster.  44 Man

either that or take one of your ruger holsters and soak it in water till its soft and then put your colt in it and form it to the gun and dry it on low heat in the oven.
