I'm trying to get an idea of what velocities can and cannot be achieved with a 22" rifle without reloading.I want factual figures, not "I think" or "might" or "someone once said".Thanks in advance and I look forward to a reply.

  • Remember the Starfish......
since I don't have a chronograph, and you dont want estimates or reload data, look for reloading manual data, and technical specs from manufacturers, they will state the velocity and list the barrel length used.

To get a more exact answer your going to have to post bullet weights and manufacturer.  Generally your going to get about 400 fps more from the rifle than from a 6" handgun.  For the best answer take your loads and rifle to someone with a chrono.
Lot of shooters have them nowdays.

by all means, get yourself a chronograph, get the cheapest one Shooting Chrony F1, no bells or whistles.  It works, thats all that needs to be said.  You shoot, it measures, you write down the number - simple as that.  No need for an onboard computer to calculate statistics.  If you know what a standard deviation is, you can certainly calculate you own in Excel. I have even used mine to measure paintballs and potatoes, it did both without fail.

I'll second the F1, but the F1 Master with remote display that sits on the bench with you is the cat's meow for not much more more $$.  ;) Best price I've seen on them is at LS&B unless you can get a reconditioned(one that had been shot was exchanged) unit direct from Shooting Chrony.
