winter work
« on: January 10, 2009, 06:10:04 AM »
To get some more talk going in here... What's anyone doing to thier bikes during the off season?  Up here it's called winter and we just go from two wheels to skis and tracks.  So what gets done to your bikes during thier slumber?
If I can get motivated enough and it warms up a wee bit (cannot work good in frigid weather) I'm wanting to take off the whole exaust and have both sides powdercoated of ceramic coated.  Just hate chrome and with them bluing, a nice matte balck would look nice.  Headlight bucket too maybe.  Would love to do the hubs and rims as well but the $ isn't going to be there for having them done and re-laced.  Otherwise juts some subtle changes (tank badges changed out and maybe some bolt heads engraved with the Brtiish flag)

I have been considering replacing the entire exhaust system. The present system is origanal until the slip on Screaming Eagle mufflers. I do not like the configuration since one pipe goes above the right rear passenger peg and one goes below. This has burned my wife's and daughters boots badly, from the upper pipe. I have been looking at V&H Big Radius 2 into 1 pipes, since this large single pipe goes below the passenger peg and looks and sounds very cool. Maybe. I have been looking at a new Harley but...............

Thunderheader aint bad either Cheese - and yes, the two into ones do have a sound all their own. Often wondered why the factory put the over and under pipes up there. Is your bike injected?  If so, may need a re-map to get it right on with the big pipe - don't know for sure, but my buddy who has the bike shop put a  Power Commander on his Ultra Glide along with the Rienharts. Found quite a bit more untapped grunt. But he always does.
Think Hooker makes some two into ones also.

P.S.  Only got down to zero last night - so far hasn't been as cold as predicted, but plenty of snow. See what tonight brings.

My Fatboy is carberated and has been re jetted to accommodate the Screaming  Eagle slip ons. This re jetting may also work for the Big Radius pipes since they are both "open" systems.

Major thing I want to do is install an aux tank I've got.  Then routine maintenance.  I've gotten behind on the maintenance so there is a lot of that I have to do!   :-[

I have a thunderheader on my 98 dyna-I would recommend riding a bike with them on it before you buy- I love mine but they are LOUD over 4000 rpm-louder even than drag pipes because the cone on the end. Very distinct sound though-did I mention I love mine?
