Did Taurus drop the Raging Bull 500 from their line, and if so why?

They sure did, I hadn't heard about any problems with the gun itself.  Most likely when they introduced it, they didn't get the interest that they had expected, not enough market share to make money on it.  I don't even know if they even produced any of the shorter barreled versions than the 10", but I don't believe so.

Thanks for the reply.  As I understand it, they did produce the 2" and 10" model (some guys saw them in shops), but as far as I am aware none of the other ones.  The one I had interest in was the 6-1/2" model.  I guess if I want a 500, I'll have to look at S&W, and an 8-3/8" barrel (the 6-1/2" half-lug S&W does not interest me).  I might also go with a 454 Raging Bull as I'll likely never need a 500 anyway.  All a 500 would wind up being is another 30 oz. of gun to tote around the woods all day, and the 454 has worked fine for many, and for many years (heck, the 44 has done just fine as well, and for even longer still).

I guess I do remember seeing pictures of the snubbies.... why you would want a .500 with a barrel that short I'm still not sure....  The 10" did seem to get good reviews though.  I think that they should of started out with the 6.5" barrel, the 10" can be just a little ominous in the hand while the 6.5" seems like more of a "normal" revolver.  I guess as a marketing strategy, they wanted to come out with the longest and shortest version first to differentiate themselves from what was already on the market... seems as if that was the case.. the strategy didn't go too well.

You would be pleased with the 454 RB and you can plink with it using 45LC.
RIP Mike. Died on July 14th, around 2am, with his family at his side, he went peacefully to be with god.
