New Forend
« on: January 01, 2009, 12:24:15 PM »
Question about the standard wooden forend (not laminate).  I sent a frame back for repair, new barrel and wooden forend.  This new forend does not have the notch for the stud that my other handi which has a laminate stock. Is this standard for the wooden non laminate forend?

Are you talking about the relief cutout for the barrel lug around the screw hole?
If so... I checked all my forearms, lam and pallet and they all have the cutout.
Maybe yours is a mistake by the factory ???

All my factory forearms have the relief cut also.

The old H&R;s didn't have that extra piece of steel on the barrel that the newer barrels have and so the old forends merely had a hole drilled for that stud, no relief. I kind of doubt that's the case here, I think its more likely what Spank suggest and its a factory mistake.

As usual I have messed up my wording of the question.  So here is a picture of the difference between the new pallet wood forend and the older laminate forend.  There is a relief cut in both but, as you can see,  they are very different in shape.  Do all new wood forends have the round cutout as seen in the picture as opposed to the oblong cutout in the laminate?

Yes, for the last year or two the relief is round instead of oblong.

Thanks for the replies.  Nothing wrong with the forend,  just curious about the shape.

It may change even more, Remington has a new H&R wood mfrg operation, it was scheduled to be started in November, dunno if they're operating yet tho.

Probably just a cost cutting measure, it can be cut with a single plunge instead of having to move the work for the lengthwise cut.
