.460 XVR red dot
« on: October 24, 2008, 03:29:39 PM »
Hey Guys,
A hunt with a .460 XVR pistol w/12" barrel
I have a bushnell 3200 scope on it and it works great while shooting at the range off of a good rest.
But twice now in the field I have missed deer at 40 and 60 yards. I am shooting off of shooting sticks but both times it was in low light conditions ( not dark though ) and I had trouble ligning up my shots.

I saw a hog hunting show a while back and the guy was a Smith and Wesson rep. and he was useing a Smith and Wesson sight that looked like a red dot style. He said it worked great in low light and it was fast and easy to get your sight picture lined up.
I can't find this sight anywhere.
Do any of you guys know of or recommend a better sight for the .460 ?

Thank You
Todd

I use and recommend Ultra-dot Match dot sights. Also look at the EOTech. I use both on my hunting handguns. Great for low light conditions, and they hold up well to the 460 Mag. I use them on my 500 Mag, 475 Linebaugh also.

Its all what you want the red dot or the cross hairs. I have the cross hairs on my S&W 500 and never had any problems.

I was at wal mart today with the wife and wandered over to the sporting good counter and they had a center point red dot garranted against shock for 49 bucks.Well knowing w mart return policy I got it for my 500 pc mag since i am going to the range tomorrow. I am curios to see if this china made red dot can hold up to some buffalo bore 500 mag rounds.

Well it held up for 15 rounds then things started to fall apart. Front cap flew off and hit me in the face then the whole scope came loose 2 rounds later and the dot stoped working. You get what you pay for and i expected this outcome but was bored and bought it anyway.

Ultra-dot and EOTech, the best on the market. I have them, and use them.

How many times have you hunted in low light conditions with your scope? I know for experience a scope in low light, you will not be able to see your cross hairs.

I have tried a bunch of red-dots on my 460 and 500 Mags, the only red-dots I had hold up to the recoil is Ultra-dot and EOTech.

I have blown up, Millet, Bushnell, Leupold/Gilmore, and Aimpoint red-dots.
