I have one.  It is overhyped.  It is a 30-30, that is suffering from lack of energy.

i want to hear the good and bad, im going to use this on coyotes in wooded areas.most shoots under 100 yds. i hunt a lot of areas around subdivions. i dont think you would shoot subsonics for hunting situations. mainly i want to know what barrel i need for this prodject.

I would not do it (again) as said it is over hyped . I had one for some time in an encore . Part of the charm was to be able to load it with heavy 180-220gr bullets sub sonic and if you are not going to do that it makes no sense .I was never able to get it to shoot worth a dang subsonic. Shot pretty good though with 125gr and 150gr but not subsonic. Since you said you are going to reload if I were you I would try and find a 7.62x39 Handi bbl they are one of the most accurate bbl's for a Handi and right in line with what you are looking at mine shoots under 1" free hand @100 yrds if I can stay steady enough. The 7.62 bbl's are hard to find... they are out there and if you were willing to pay to have a custom cal done you should be willing to pay top dollar and be able to pry one of these bbl's from someone holding one(not mine).I have loaded both 125gr and 150gr SP prohunter bullets same accuracy with both so I have settled in with the 125gr. My opinion 300 whisper and it ain't really a Whisper unless it is made by the Whisper man is just a 300-221 is just not worth the time . Kurt

just  get the  357  sb1  and  save  your  money

load  heavy  weight  38  with  fast  powder  real quiet  and powerful
load  357  if  you  need  range  or  more  power  they  or  not  real  loud  like  a  30-30  or  anything

the  44special  is a quiet rifle round  too
or  down loaded  cast  30-30   [with  the option  of  real rounds]

I wouldn't worry with it either. There are a lot better callibers you could use for that purpose. If you are dead set on it the 223 will work. The end of the chamber is reamed for the 30. I had a 556 ar chamber reemed to 300 whisper, then 338/ Ingram for lack of power I needed for hunting. The tcu chambers are much better than the fireball variants. The 6.8 spc is a little more than a 100 yard cartridge, but is still 223 size.
As for factory rounds the above gentlemans' recomendation along withe the 45 lc and the 22 kornet would all make great rifles for 100 yards.

If you are looking for something quiet do a search on Cat Whisper loads. There has been a lot of talk about them on leverguns.com where folks are using .44 mags with a light load of bullseye and a heavy bullet.

your  all  set  them
try  3 grains  bullseye behind 180wfn  fron LBT  in  your  357

i   also  use  3 grains behind  280 wfn  in  the 44 speacial
seat  bullet  deep in  both  loads
seems to  work better  and  helps  identify  them  from  full power

I too like the obscure calibers the most. But for me I wouldn't do this one. its just not going to do anything for you you cannot do with factory available calibers. Again for me its also a rimless case, not something I'll be doing again...

Wanna stay different, how about the 30 Herrett? Brass is easy to make and loads will exceed what the whisper can do. Its made from ULTRA common 30-30win brass. Its rimmed so extraction issues should be Nil. Its quite efficient and a accurate shooter.

I also like the suggestion of using heavy 38's in the .357 Mag. My .357 shoots .38's very accurate and very quiet. I haven't shot any .38's since I put my scope on but with the factory open sights I consistently got
1 1/4" groups @ 70 yards using factory loaded 148 grain .38 wadcutters.
They were as quiet as .22 LR only with a deeper sounding tone.
