I would take a shot at a 400 yard deer with my 45-70 no questions asked.  Of course I don't use "kentucky" windage, and I wouldn't take the shot with much wind blowing.  If it's just drop and not drift, I could hit a deer with my 45-70 first shot 400 yards every time.

I have a load for my 45/70 that will knock a deer out of its hooves at 400 yards.  Could I hit it at 400?  Yeah, with some practice.  So Pete, I'll come up and practice at your place, sounds nice.

I really like the Blackhawk.  It's stainless with very nice rosewood grips.  It came with black sights and I couldn't find them in low light in the woods.  I sent it down to Bill Williams gun shop in Saginaw and my friend, Lyle, the gunsmith, put a red up front and a white notch rear and all is happy.  Like most of my guns, it shoots better than I do.  I had a lot of fun shooting red squirrels with .38s last Spring, and I've shot one very close doe with it.  I carry it because no matter how dead a deer is, I put one behind its ear when I walk up on it.  With the doe, It was impossible to sneak the rifle up on her.  The revolver was in a crossdraw holster and very easy to slowly sneak out.  The rail on the tree stand was blocking her view.

LAZER, The latch string is out.  Come up after the fifteenth of April and by that time it should be above zero and most of the ice, snow, slush, and mud should be gone :D :D.

I completely agree w/ the fact that most people I know, have no idea how to shoot past 100 yards,  I thought I did until a friend of mine invited me on a pd hunt in Elkhart, KS.  That's when I got my real schooling!  Some very talented shooters taught me a lot about distance and windage.  The longest shot I made on a pd w/ about 600 yards... Since then I've shot @ 1000 yards at my freinds farm, and that is VERY challenging, even w/ a benchrest gun :D
I'm voting 3rd party in this election by writing in Jesus Christ for president.  Sadly even if this were an option most of you would still vote Republican because "It's a two party system."

Hornady said 2009 in their press release, Midway has the end of December as their expected date, but they already moved them back 2 weeks once!!
