357 max
« on: December 10, 2008, 11:53:03 PM »
OK, I tried to do my homework and search for this info, but couldn't find what I needed  ??? ??? Question is, do I need to remove the ejector on my barrel before reaming it out to 357 Max? it seems to me it would be a good idea to avoid the interupted cut at the rim area so as not to chip the reamer ?? I realise nothing will be cut there, but the tolerance of the ejector to barrel fit could allow an edge to "stick out ??? What are you thoughts and experiences?

Facing the same issue, I think it both prudent to remove the extractor and an opportunity to change over to ejector.

When I reamed my 357 mag barrel I did remove the ejector,
Been told it was not needed. Not that much trouble to
remove ejector. Good Luck. Use plenty of cutting oil.

Another beliver into the fold...

Just like Bob, my 357Maxi is my favorite... When you start loading, try the 180SSP Hornady and 1680 powder. If shooting game, steer clear of the big bones at close range. It will still work and is devestating, but likely will not exit.

Well, its done, couldn't be easier, reamer from 4D was in super nice shape, very sharp and cut effortlessly. Chamber looks and works great, can't wait to get it to the range.

I am kinda late in this post. I wasn't sure if I needed to remove the ejector or not, so I did, just to be safe. Like you said - easy ;D

Just a quick question: Can standard .357 rounds be fired in a .357 max?

Thanks!

I've had a .357mag barrel for about 10 years, and it shoots great. I finally bit the bullet and bought 500 Max cases from Midway.

Figure I'd do the Handi, and then maybe rebarrel my Ruger N0.3 to .357 Max also.

Has anyone used the "barrel" reamer from Pacific Tool and Gauge in .357 max? It's the only one I could find on the web that sound like the right throat.

If there are others, I have not seen them.

I think you can buy one from Midway, But you can rent one twice for the
cost of buying I think. Marv.
