Very nice buck stevinator 8)
This was a great trophy to take when you did as that ole boy probably would have gone completely nocturnal (had he survived) when the guns start going off next weekend.

Very nice.  I have been out two mornings.  I saw a small buck the first morning and 5 does the second time out.  They just need to get in a little closer.  Saturday they were moving around a bit.  I am trying a new place on Friday.  I wish everyone luck.

Congrats on your buck, glad someone had some luck, I went up to the NGTA but, never got drawn for this weekend. I hate hunting public ground!

I saw the head of a doe on Friday about 10 minutes before quitting time.  If she would have just come a few steps closer I would have taken a chest shot.  We didn't see a thing on Saturday.  We are in the process of moving the stands to another part of the property.

Nice buck Stevinator.

I had a shot on a similar size buck last week and a branch jumped up and deflected the arrow. >:(

That would have been my first trophy buck.

Oh well, the nine days of camping and visiting with friends made up for the lack of deer.

Heck, the season's not over yet.

Thanks for the compliments guys.I am not a big trophy hunter, I was in the right place at the right time.I have hunted all my life but started hunting deer off and on about 18yrs ago.I started with the bow first and couple years later started going slug season.Funny the 2 best deer I have ever shot were with the bow and pistol,go figure. My partner shot a 12pt with a drop tine Sat that ran by one of our stands. He came in after some shooting around us.He is ribbin me now because I never sit in that stand.I haven't seen it produce much in 10 yrs.I told him I thought he was wasting his time.LOL I will be ready for the antlerless season and our 2nd slug season next weekend. So just keep pluggin away that's what I do and good luck.

I finally got a doe last Saturday morning.  Bang, Flop.  I love those Remington BuckHammers in my NEF 20ga USH.  I saw another doe Saturday evening just as I was getting ready to leave my stand.  She was about 15 feet behind me.  We had a short staring contest before she bolted.

Nice, looks like supper to me. I think the best of the Illinois whitetail deer, for eating, are the 100-110 lbs. does?

I added a muzzleloader doe to the freezer yesterday am.  Approx. 80 yards threaded thru tree limbs.
High shoulder shot NEF huntsman w/ 348 tipped Powerblet in front of 100 gr's 777 loose.

Full penetration lots of blood, she made it 15 yards -of course down into the creek - she got back at me and made me pay for shooting her.

ILHunter, yours reminds me of my very first deer back in 81' as the circumstances were near identical but I had a 370gr T/C maxi-ball ahead of 80gr of goex ffg. Seemed like I could shoot 100yd tin cans all day with that load. I did switch to the patched ball for the next 21 years and finally to S/A revolvers for the last five years.
