Took the Handi for a walk.
« on: November 27, 2008, 04:44:37 AM »
Well well i guess it was about time to squeeze the trigger this afternoon. Got in the stand about 12 after the rain let up and saw a buck chasing a doe in the bottom of the hardwoods going the other way. Sat there until about 4:30 and the wind would not let up. Figuring any deer that was heading to the acorns would not get there until after dark when the wind laid down. I got down and headed to the crp field and found a hay roll to lean against. I had a great vantage point of the thicket that is behind the house hoping to catch a doe heading out to the hardwoods about 200 yards away. Sure nuf about 5:05 this rascal stepped out of the thicket. Came about 20 yards and stopped to scan the field. He was facing me at 100 yards. BAM! Down like a sack of taters. Shot him in the white spot with the old Handi 243. When I opened the safe to head out his bottom lip was all pooched out cause I haven't been giving him as much attention since the Stevens 200 came home to live with us. The 95gr Fusions did it again.

Way to go Stateline', you're going to have some good eating there.  ;)

Tomorrow I'm going to fix a batch of Venison Tenderloin Merlot served over Spatzle (German potato noodles).  Yum!

That ought to be some good eating.  Seen Caribou and Moose taken with a .243, so deer should be no problem.

What Is A Veteran?
A 'Veteran' -- whether active duty, discharged, retired, or reserve -- is someone who, at one point in his life, wrote a blank check made payable to 'The United States of America,' for an amount of 'up to, and including his life.' That is honor, and there are way too many people in this country today who no longer understand that fact.

How about take some of that tenderloin, wrap it in bacon, cook both sides on the grill until the bacon is crispy.  Then call me.......

Good job,

I got bashed pretty hard on the small bore forum for saying that the .243 was good deer medicine.
I have seen big bull moose taken cleanly with a .243 in Quebec.

I guess some people think deer are bulletproof or something.

Just goes to show...
Hit 'em where it hurts and it's meat in the freezer!!

Good job. Got a .243 I haven't had a chance to try out on a deer yet. Got to get it out before the season is over.
