Got the second one back, still POed.
« on: October 14, 2008, 02:45:29 PM »
Second one showed up, same shape as the first one except the hammer extension was torn off the hammer and is missing out of a bigger hole in the box. :(  Scraped the black off the hammer, so I know it was on there.  Same box used that you get with it in the store, the one that says 'it has to be reinforced if used for shipping'. ???  The extra scope rail and hammer extension are not in the box, but are on the invoice along with all the extra charges for sight screws, blades, bases ect. :P  And the other 4-$15.00 charges for GR-PROOF, HR- shipping and handling, HR- test, and HR barrel fitting. >:(  Total on this invoice is $249.60. :o >:(  In the morning another phone call, another wait for 20 min. to talk to some one and another C/S rep getting chewed out for nothing that is their fault. :-[  I do have the name and number of someone who is supposed to be in charge of such matters given to me by the Remington sales rep during their last visit to the sporting goods stores that hosted them last month.  I may call him first.  I will not use this accessory barrel program again!  DP

What barrel did you get fitted?  $270 will flat out buy most Handi's my BC only cost $370 new in box including tax.  It seems they may have atken to charging for a lot more "miscellaneous" items recently, when I got my Tracker II and Hunstman barrels I got charged exactly what it had said on the order form, I think the total was $189 and change.  That was barely a month ago.

Had sent 2 frames in to have 357 mag barrels fitted.  Also ordered 3 scope rails with hammer extensions and 2 sets of plastic stocks and asked if they could do something about the trigger pull.  A new one at 2 stores in town are $249.95 and if you want to order at Wally-world about $12.00 less.  So right now I have $477.67 in 2 rifles that I waited 4 months for, will have to buy sling swivel studs to put in the stocks get the rest of the order shipped, and get the missing hammer extension ordered as well.  They said they will remove the charges for the sight parts off the first barrel and the proof and test charges as well.  I'll see what they say tomarrow about the rest of the extra charges on the second one.  I'm not going to order barrels again, just buy the gun new and get it right away.  Sure am unhappy with this.  Not sure I will be as nice this time, the lady told me there were no extra charges on the second barrel.  Had thought to have one rechambered to 35 rem and the other 357 max, so wanted them on SB2 frames, or would have just bought new to begin with.  Should have ordered some already in a warehouse somewhere.  DP

Just dispute the charges with your credit card company and let them take it on the chin for major screw ups. It's sure looking like Remington really didn't want NEF to begin with only Marlin and they are bound and determined to end the company.

I think if they really just wanted to end the company they'd just close it.  Running it poorly for awhile and taking huge losses will cost them plenty in both cash and reputation.  It really just looks like they have not planned or executed the change in management at all well. THe barrel accesory program may be going away at this rate, but honestly I think the handi line will survive and I'm near positive the Pardners will continue to be made.  Half the people I know who hunt own or have owned one and every gun store for 100 miles has Pardners in stock in at least smoothbore 12 and .410.

I don't see the Handi line going away. It's a low end market for Remington, especially if the russian stuff goes away.

But I don't envision it like it is now. They'll probably keep the shotguns, .410, 20 and 12. Rimfire rifles will be 22's. Centerfires would probably get cut back to maybe 3 or 4 calibers, probably keep the Buffalo Classic too.

All the other asst stuff, including barrel accessory, I can see that going away. If not from sheer corporate profiteering, then from lack of interest because they screwed up a good thing.

Called the C/S Mgr and had to leave a message on his voice mail.  After about 3 hours, no call back, so called again.  Same message, hung up.  With in 5 minutes, the same girl I spoke with about the first gun called me and said her boss had told her to work on the credits for me and she had already ordered the missing parts.  She didn't have a copy of the second invoice yet, but when she did, she would call me with the total of the credit.  Of course the charges have already hit my CC.  Darn it, she was nice and it wasn't her fault, how can ya go off on someone like that.  Still no excuse for the run around and the bad packaging for shipping.  I checked the price list on line again, the amounts I sent for the parts was correct for what is listed, and no charges are listed for proof or test.   DP

"Running it poorly for awhile and taking huge losses will cost them plenty in both cash and reputation."

"Total on this invoice is $249.60."

Don't sound much like they are losing money to me.
Looks more like they are making plenty on the barrel program at those prices!

I think I will take my chances getting my barrels here on GBO while helping out other members at the same time.
Or I will just buy the whole gun new!--No I won't buy new, that would just be putting more money in BIG GREENs POCKET.
I will just buy the whole gun used as I find them!!!

I've had 3 other barrels fitted a few years ago, took awhile, but wasn't charged extra and everything made it ok.  This has just been a mess.  Dp

The barrel program never really has been worth it.

That depends how you look at it. The barrel program spawned a lot of buzz about a pretty basic rifle. Do you think this group would have ever existed if not for the barrel program. Go search the internet for H&R rifles. This site will come up, I think it helps sell more rifles.

In other words, get people excited and talking about your product, other people will buy your product because they heard good things about them.

I seriously doubt I would have started into Handi's without this site and what I was told about them. Of course, when things go bad, it works the opposite way.

I absolutely agree with that, it was the "interchangeable" barrels and this forum that got me interested, but I always wondered how NEF could do it so cheaply. With this kind of performance and excessive costs, Remington will not be selling many barrels... too bad.

Getting a barrel that shoots or doesn't is always a crap shoot. Getting good service should NEVER be a crap shoot. I'm finished with them until they get their act together-IF THAT EVER HAPPENS.

Latest contact with C/S on overcharges and missing parts
« Reply #15 on: November 05, 2008, 12:42:08 PM »
Just got off the phone with Pete, C/S with H&R today.  I had waited to get the call I was promised about the credits on my over charges as well as missing parts, but that didn't happen.  So, another call yesterday and message left, no call.  Today, I called and took the first one who answered the phone, was only on hold 16min. and 42 sec.  Anyway, Pete was most helpful after he got everything from the lady I had talked to 2 weeks ago.  She had issued a credit to my card but hadn't ordered the missing parts.  Pete took care of that and added some extra parts that I wanted to make up for the problems that I have had with this mess.  I have to say, he did go above and beyond what was needed to try to make things right.  The scope rails are on back order, but are ordered as are the sling swivel studs and hammer extensions.  At last I am satisfied with the service if not the timelyness of the order.  He did state that they had problems with the packing at first and I wasn't the only one with complaints on that, but that it had be taken care of now.  Sorry for the book here, but wanted to let you guys know.  DP

Hi Guys,

Just my 2 bits worth (due to inflation, 2 cents don't go far :P).
If Remington really took care of the H&R-NEF line and made the barrels to fit the same from one frame to another like T/C , they could really kick the stuffin out of TCArms. They may just have some bitter employees working in the new plant. Maybe possible things will get ironed out in the new year. Hopefully.  :-\
