« on: October 29, 2008, 03:02:45 PM »
Im going to buy another Mueller 50mm scope for my new
223 ultra fluted, I want the scope to sit a least as low as
the same scope on my 17HM2:

Im going to use the stock rail on the Ultra fluted, cant
remember how high or what number is on my 17...?

Mods can delete this thread please, found countless (useless) returns
in the FAQ area. I'll post part numbers to just clear this week.

Medium rings are fine for any Mueller 50mm scope, the hammer is where clearance becomes an issue, I have a couple 50mm Muellers on H&Rs mounted in medium Burris Signature Zees, the scope can be positioned so the hammer swings between the power ring and ocular bell. There's no difference in mounting rimfire or centerfire H&Rs, they both have the same dimensions as far as mounting a scope.

We don't normally delete threads unless they violate the rules.

Thank you sir, searched and went thru a lot of posts that confirmed.

That pic actualy looks like the Burris med z rings have the scopes
forward end closer than whatever I used last time, looks just
where I want mine. Im not worried about the hammer, I can
cut/weld anything thats metal...good excuse to do another
trigger job on the new one!

I just mounted a 50mm scope with objective mounted adjustment, using Warne medium 1" rings.  It clears the barrel (Ultra 243) without problem.  The only issue was the power adjustment ring was pretty close at low power (it has a nub to grip).  I haven't had any clearance problems with medium ring set, and using usually 44mm AO type scopes.   Switched a 44mm AO scope to a .22Mag bull barrel with plenty of clearance, both barrel and hammer.   Course you pretty much have to use a hammer extension.
Will that bow kill an elk?     Sure.....but arrows are much more effective.

Weaver "Guide series Quad Top" sold by Gander Mountain:

"med" too low for 50mm on fluted Ultra, actualy contacts
the barrel.

"high" clears barrel by just over 1/8", slight adjustment
ring issue depending on were scope is placed (eye relief).
Minor to minimal grinding for 100% clearing the adjustment
ring.

The Guide series apears very solid for aluminum, quad top
anchors very solid, cheap at $14 and well worth it from
what I see on my bench (next to high dollar rings).
Im gonna give them a two thumbs up, cheap and solid.

*This is on stock H&R long (discontinued) ultra base, my
"new" gun was built in 06....it's 11/08 now!
