Has anyone tried the Hammond Game Getter
« on: October 15, 2008, 04:31:40 AM »
Hey guys I just bought a Hammond Game Getter in 45/70 and I'm having trouble getting it to fire.  Its using ramset 22 power loads to fire a swaged down .490 muzzleloading ball.  I was hoping to get to plink without reloading but it looks like I should have bought a lee load all and some powder, primer, and cast bullets. Its very frustrating to shoot 15 times with only 3 ignitions.  The firing pin seems to be hitting too far from the rim to set it off.  So the question for today is have any of you tried these things and know a trick I don't know?  I sent an email to the manufacturer of this device and hope to hear back soon.  Any info is welcome.

Thanks
Bradley

P.S In my frustration I dropped a 405 grain bullet @ 1600 in the chamber to make sure it wasn't the rifle.  Wow its been a while since I have shot this thing.  Makes one pay attention to stock placement quickly. ;D

Firing pin strikes aren't always in the middle, so try indexing the round in a different orientation in the chamber to get consistent ignition, you should find a position that strikes the rim properly.  ;)
