Barrel fitting question
« on: October 07, 2008, 10:24:59 AM »
I scanned through the FAQ and didn't see what I was looking for, so here goes:

I recently bought a 12 ga. slug barrel from a member and find that it fits my Ultra Varmint frame perfectly.
However, I really wanted to put it with my Topper frame, and although it appears to have the correct fit on the pin and breach, it won't latch.

I'm open to suggestions.

Go through the FAQs again and check it out.  Smoke the latch shelf and see how much bite, if any is there.  You might have to file down the latch shelf on the BARREL....DON'T TOUCH THE FRAME.

Read the barrel fitting for a novice, it's all in there, start to finish! There are things to check before you start making changes, don't just jump in the middle and start changing things, you don't want to change the latch shelf until the last step of fitting, that would be when there's no visible gap between the chamber end of the barrel and the standing breech when viewed from the side toward a light, then check latch engagement. ;)

OK guys, I'll double-check the FAQ.
But what I meant by not latch was no engagement at all, none. It sound like filing the shelf is what it'll have to be, but I didn't want to do that and then find out that I should have done something else.
Thanks.
