NEF Survivor .308 Range Report
« on: September 29, 2008, 04:48:18 AM »
Took the ol' .308 out for its first walk yesterday...

Black Hills 165gr match ammo produced consistant 1" groups @ 100 yards.

NEF Survivor .308, Millett high rings, BSA Catseye 3.5-10x50 scope.

NEEDS RECOIL PAD!!!! LOL...

2 problems I had though... Hammer extension was kept 4 rounds from firing....

Bi-pod really messed up some groups...

Other than that... I'm really pleased w/ the results...

I'd like the .308 Survivor if it had a normal contour barrel and a recoil pad.  I prefer shooting sticks to a bipod with a Handi since you can place them under the receiver.  If and when the dollars become available, I'm going to build one that way.

Referring to the other current thread on Pack Rifles, I think it would make a great out-back pack rifle without the bull barrel.

Good report Sam!! The Limbsaver slip-on works on the Survivor stock. ;)

Pete, I use the Stoney Point Explorer Polecat bipod, it works sitting, kneeling and standing, I carry it on a deer skin sling over my shoulder, don't even know it's there and it's always ready to use, the legs twist to lock/unlock, it's very Handi friendly! ;D

Did you try shooting off sandbags or something?  I have never found a bipod to be satisfactory for shooting groups.

Yeah, I actually got the consistant 1" groups off my range bag stuffed w/ my jacket lol...  In the field I usually carry a backpack stuffed w/ a coat or something of the sort to use as a rest...

Tore apart my gun room last night and came across a medium pachmeyer slip on recoil pad lol... Why oh why could I have not found that Sunday lol ;D

Tim, I really like the looks of that Polecat, AND it will work on all my Handis, or probably any rifle for that matter.  I'll only need one.  Thank you kindly for the information.  Pete

Pete, I originally bought it for Dad cuz he couldn't hold steady any more, but he got too old and quit hunting in 2003, so he gave it back to me, I tried it and liked it!! ;)
