Customising a Model 83
« on: September 30, 2008, 11:31:28 PM »
Last year I found a FA 83 44 Mag silhouette.  I don't shoot this discipline but FA revolvers are pretty uncommon in Australia (I haveen only three for sale in the last 6 years and have bought all of them).

I have replaced the 10" barrel with one from our best benchrest barrel makers;  the length is 4 3/4" with a barrel-cylinder gap of .002.  The silhouette sights have been replaced with FA adjustables and I am planning on replacing the Pachmayrs (it is a field grade) with custom fitted black micarta.

I aim to have this gun set up as a medium bore bore general purpose as it is in 44 mag - the most readily available handgun cartridge heredue to the popularity of Wincheszter and Marlin carbines in the calibre for pig shooting.

What else could/should I do to make this the perfect outdoorsman's pistol?

Give it to me; I'm the prefect outdoorsman  ;D.

You could probably have shortened the barrel without replacing it?

Show us a pic when you are done.

Get it put together as described, sight it in and take it on a pig hunt.  Now if you send us tickets, we will come on over, help you field dress and pack that pig, and get it ready for roasting.  When the pig is on the fire, we can shoot a silhouette match with you, and then dine on roasted pig!!   ::)

Really sounds like a nice gun.  Do show a photo and if you get a pig with it, show us photos of that too.

Enjoy!!
