New Brunswick Bear Hunt
« on: October 13, 2008, 02:43:52 PM »
Anyone hunt in NB this year.

Found a great lodge. The group has 100% SUCCESS. Out of 7 guys, 1 bear over 40lbs, 2 over 300, 3 in 200lbs range, 1 small guy. Saw signs of several bears in the 400lb range at 3 stands (prints over 4.5", 1 sighted while baiting).

The lodge has 33 bears in 8 weeks of hunting (including spring). Would recommend to anyone inquiring.

Why not just post the details?

What lodge - hunt quality - accommodations - food quality - cost - overall satisfaction.

We can all help each other by providing honest feedback re: our hunts. Good or bad.

I'm booking my hunt for next year but havn't finalized the dates yet. He's almost fully booked so I don't want to screw myself out of the date.

Hunt quality was excellent. Our week we had 7 guys see, 11 bear seen, 7 killed.

The baits are rotated constantly so there is no risk of overhunting any stand. Some stands are not hunted for the season at all to let the site settle down. based on the sign we saw, we had several 300lb+ bears not taken (paw prints over 4" at several stands).

Accommodations were good, clean log home, plenty to eat. I must have liked i otherwise I wouldn;t be booking another trip.

I'll provide more details on the local when my itineary is finalized.

Price was reasonable, lodge was 1300, with licenses, gas and tips hunt ran under 1800.

Sorry Varmint hunter..

Went in the 80's and 90's.  Ruffs Sporting Camps, now in Riley Brook.  Very nice people w nice accomodations.  I haven't been there for about 15 years and I suspect John Ruff is getting on in years so my info won't be of much help I'm afraid.

I've hunted in NB twice for blackbears. Both times I was at Slipp Brothers Camp in Hoyt. You couldn't find two guys who provide a better hunting experience in most places.

Accommodations were very good
Food was plentiful and very good
Stands were large enough for a hunter and lots of gear - safety rails all the way around - camoed
Bait sites were baited with meat and fat/oil all year long
Quads were brought in to move all downed bears
Outfitter gutted and professionally skinned all bears - no extra cost
Walk in coolers were used to hold bears overnight to maintain hide and meat quality from  day one
Bait sites were MANY miles apart so you didn't have to wonder if you and others were trying to draw the same bears
Great time was had by all

drdougrx, I feel the same way about Wild Country Outfitters, and the good thing is, I can use my handguns.
