H&R handgun?
« on: September 18, 2008, 02:43:37 AM »
Okay crazy question.  Is there a way to convert a Handi rifle in to a handgun?  I am thinking along the line of the T/C Contender.  Is there a way to buy a shorter barrel and pistol grip and have a different style gun to shoot and then convert it back to a rifle?

The only way to make it legal is H&R (Remington) has to sell it as a handgun. T/C can only be a handgun if it is sold as a handgun. If it is sold as a rifle, it can not be made into a handgun, legally. I do not think Remington is going to make a "Handi" handgun any time soon.

You don't want to go down that road.
Read the posts, arguments, facts, crap about all this in the TC section ( Legality of rifle/handgun in an Encore )
You will more than likely forget all about that idea!

It depends on how bad you want one. You can do a form1 for a SBR and have it as a pistol and put a stock on it . I had the bottom gun in the pic. built as a pistol . I then send off a form1 for a sbr. When I got it back I put the stock on it. Its a  one time 200 dollar stamp.  WARNING class3 stamp collecting is hard to stop once you get started. ;D

A good friend of mine had the idea to do that to his 10-22.  After we did the research and checked on the paperwork for it he soon gave up the idea.  A couple of years later the 10-22 chargers (or whatever their name is) came out and he's been griping ever since that someone stole his idea.  I remind him of it frequently for laughs...

The T/C was designed to be a pistol and eventually was retrofitted as a rather bizarre looking  quasi carbine. The H&R was designed to be a 12 gauge shotgun and eventually was fitted with a wide variety of rifle and shotgun barrels. It would make a very heavy, bulky and awkward pistol. It makes much more sense to leave the T/C in pistol form and the H&R as a rifle/shotgun.
The story of David & Goliath only demonstrates the superiority of ballistic projectiles over hand weapons, poor old Goliath never had a chance.

There are a few out there made in the early 1930s before the NFA rules started.  You still need BATF approval to own one, and they sell for mid 4 digit prices.

Do a google image search for "Handy Gun"
