870 Express Ammo jams up
« on: September 21, 2008, 02:04:50 PM »
My daughter has an 870 Express youth 20ga 3" mag.  It was bought new in 1998.  It will NOT shoot anything but Remington shells.  Federal, Fiochi, and Winchester (both slugs and shot) jam up so tight in the chanber that I've literally had to slam the buttstock on the ground for a couple of them.  Has anyone else had these problems?  I sent the gun to the authorized Remengton Repair in Cambridge, OH.  Went out as soon as I got it back and promptly stuck 5 Feds in a row.  Went home mad and called him.  He said he shot a box with no problems.  I asked what kind and he said Rems and told me to try that.  20 rnds later with no problems, I called him back to gripe about it and he told me I'd just have to shoot only Rems thru it.  Rem slugs aren't a problem, but the field and game loads get a little pricey compared to the others.  Looking for OP's experiences/possible sloutions.  Thanx in advance.

Sounds like a simple case of polishing the chamber. It's a shame they didn't do it for you.
RIP Mike. Died on July 14th, around 2am, with his family at his side, he went peacefully to be with god.

It usually ejects about 1/8 to 1/4 inch before it locks up.  I did polish the slide release metal to metal contact areas, thinking that it wouldn't "let go".  Next chance I get to her house, I'll put a light to the chamber and see what's there.  Thanks!
