NEED HELP WITH .223 TSX BULLETS
« on: September 16, 2008, 10:08:22 AM »
My handi .223 with bull barrel shoots 45 grain bullets extremely accurately [ less than an inch at 100]. I tried 53 gr.TSX . I can not get them to print less than a 4 inch group at 100 yds. Any suggestions as to what I can do to tighten up my TSX bullets? thanks JC ???

I've found that most rifles either like them or they don't.   You just may not be able to shoot them.  Usually its the tighter bores that shoot them best.

Depending on the twist in your 223 barrel it may never shoot them well, but the TSX likes to be pushed hard for best accuracy from my experience. Barnes shows their test barrel as a 1:12" so I'd try their data if you haven't.

I've tried a LOT of Barnes bullets in a bunch of rifles and have yet to find a load with any Barnes bullet in any rifle I own that shoots better than 4" at 100 yards.  ::)

My Superlight .223 likes 25gr. H4895 behind the 53 gr. TSX.  The first two shots will land within an inch of one another @ 100 yards and, more importantly, consistently to point of aim.  The third shot opens the group up to about 2".  (The Superlight barrel has a 12" twist).

I use the same powder/charge behind the Nosler 60 gr. Partition.  It shoots to the same point of aim and the same accuracy.  It's another option.

Sorry to hear that.
My Win 30/06 and my 300 Weatherby shoot them with great accuracy.Killed everything from deer to moose with them. But Quick may be correct. I'm pushing them almost to the limit. Not so with the .223. I'll try to speed them up and see what happens.

I checked the twist and it's 1:12 so the 53 grain should shoot well. I'll try their data and see what happens.
