3:10 to Yuma
« on: July 15, 2008, 02:28:59 PM »
Since I had made the 'jigged bone' type grips for the new Gaucho, I decided to play with the stock grips.  I found a cross and with a couple of hours with the dremel, I inlet it into the stock grips, ala '3:10 to Yuma'.  The plastic of the stock grips was much harder than expected, it seems to be some kind of super strong nylon material.  I think they would be very difficult to break.
It is interesting that the cross fits in the crease in the palm of my hand and make a reference and a secure grip on the gun.  I know that Elmer Keith talked about this same feature with his 'longhorn' heads that were cut in relief on his Ivory grips.  It was fun to do and I'll use them with the Christian Cowboys.  We have a performance on the 26th and 27th.  I must have too much time on my hands!  44 Man.

Is your cross wood? What kind? If you can find big enough chunk sagebrush looks a lot like this but the growth rings are closer togather.

That one is truer to the movie 3:10 to Yuma!  Love it!  Maybe I get one of those and do the other stock grips I have for the polished SS Gaucho's.  44 Man.
