20 gauge slugs
« on: December 21, 2008, 06:43:04 AM »
What's your favorite 20 gauge slug?  I just received my Saiga 20 gauge and I plan on using Brenneke 3" Magnum slugs out of it's smoothbore. I was just wondering what everybody else was using out of their 20 gauge slug guns.

Plain old Remington sluggers are my favorite in all my slug guns. A lot cheaper than the Brenneke too.

I was waiting for someone to ask. Challenger slugs are manufactured in Canada by a company called Munitions Challenger Amunition.

Last summer I had NEF put a 20 ga. rifled barrel on an old .410's frame. Topped it with a Nikon 2-7 and sighted it in with Winchester Partition slugs. My daughter shot it well at the range, and made a good shot on a doe. The Partition killed the deer, but the exit wound left alot to be desired. Not much of a blood trail at all, and the deer ran a good 75 yards. I was a little disappointed.
Next year we are going to try the Hornady SST. I bought 15 to shoot at the range, so we'll see how they compare.

I did turn her recovery into a "How-to" lesson on tracking, so it was nice to have a teachable moment after the shot. Hopefully she will remember what I taught her.
