What can I do???
« on: September 06, 2008, 01:52:14 PM »
I have a Remington 760 in 30-06 cal. I can't even begin to count the number of deer that I've taken with this gun. I love this gun. It is the only centerfire I have. Last year, I hunted a tripod on Thanksgiving morning and it rained pretty good. Like a dummy, I kept my barrel up with out a piece of electrical tape or anything over the muzzle.  If I remember right, I think when I got home with it I cleaned it real good, took it apart and everything. Anyways about a week latter I shoot a doe and when I go to eject the brass, It is very hard to do. It has always been easy, almost effortless. After trying I finally get it ejected but it take a lot of effort. I took it home and and cleaned everything and shot a couple rounds and it worked great. Cleaned it again and a few days later shot another doe and it takes alot to eject the brass again. Without fired brass it is no problem whether the gun is empty or has an unfired cartridge it's no problem. And right after I clean the barrel it's no problem. Only a few days after the cleaning and I fire a cartridge does it become hard to eject. What can I do to correct this????? Thanks, Scott Woody

Are you practicing with one type ammo and then hunting with another.  Are your rounds too hot?

Have you broken it down removing the trigger group and checking for rust inside and in the chamber area? I'd kinda suspect you managed to pick up some rust either in the chamber area or along the rails inside the action. Break it down and clean that up good and lube it properly. Then double check the chamber area to make sure it didn't rust from the water that got down into the barrel.

I'll second Graybeard's reply. My 7600 came with a chamber brush but I haven't seen one like it for sale. The M1 Garand chamber brush may work. You would need to pull the trigger group to use it.

Rust may have started to build and bind the slide action bars.  Like others have said, take the trigger group out. Then some spray wd40 on the slide bars as you slowly move the fore-end back and forth allowing the wd40 to work its way down and in. I think if it is rust, it's in this area versus the chamber. Hopefully it isn't too far gone and that will be all you need to do.  If that doesn't help then I'd take it to gunsmith and have him completely dismantle the action and slide bars to get a better look at what you're dealing with and go from there.  Good luck.

Also some dry lube on the slide bars and trigger group.

I would almost bet as others said you got some rust in the chamber and the case is griping it
so it won't slide out easy.

My dads 760 came with a brush to clean the chamber , they must know something at the factory . The brush had an offset handle , wish he knew where he put it .
If ya can see it ya can hit it !
