Remington New Slug
« on: May 30, 2008, 02:12:31 PM »
I happened to have some credit in local gun shop and picked up box of the new Remington slugs. First of all.....HOLY CRAP are they expensive. They were $18/box so glad I had some mad money at the shop. I plan on testing through chronograph this weekend out of my Encore and will provide report on at least velocity consistency and maybe a sense of accuracy. Anybody shoot them yet?

Are these the Premier AccuTip Bonded Slugs? I don't like the looks of em or the price. I am intrested in hearing how it comes out though.

I have not heard of these what is the latest greatest marketing scam for these. In other words how will this new one allow you to kill the biggest buck ever . Just curious.Kurt

With a nick name of 30-06man I am not surprised.  ;D   ;)  The price would deter me, but I prefer the 30-06 myself but also have a definite appreciation and use for slugs.

Craig,
please let us know how they work.

Wow $18.99 a box is cheap. Here in NJ. I have seen them for $22.99 a box absolute insanity. I think this year the slug gun will stay in the safe and I will just use my muzzleloader. Cheaper, more fun to shoot and more accurate.

They just look like a toy to me also. Brass insted of Copper and a Green Clear toy like ballistic tip with holes in it. I have only shot 3 slugs before and they were just plane ole lead and that was about 20 years ago. I used to have a double barrel I would use on deer drives and I would have a slug in one barrel and 00 Buck in the other. Here in SC we don't have to use slugs so I don't.

Smart Bullets they find the deer for you and it automatically knows if it is too small.  :D ;D

Yep, price is for 5.  Don't know how they group yet, it will be tomorrow before the ammor gets here and maybe next weekend before I get to shoot it.  I found it a buck cheaper instock at www.cheaperthandirt.com last night. :(

The August 2008 issue of Rifleman explains the weird green hat with the holes in it. Sounds to me like they spent some time and energy on this design and at least in the 2 guns the author was shooting they preformed very well...  $$$20 well probly not for me I just think the ammo makers for slugs want to recoup all there costs the first yr of release then it don't matter what anybody thinks of them. That's what they always say. Any updates on the range result?

I guess better late than never on range results. Easy...TERRIBLE out of my Encore 12 SS barrel. I shot 5 Hammerheads after the Remingtons and they were one raggee hole at 50 yds. The Remingtons were lucky to be 6" group at beast at 50 yds. I have one box left to try out of 870 with Hastings heavy slug barrel and will post up probably after this weekend. For $18/box OUCH! I was truly hoping for better performance out of Encore that I got. But as we all know each gun can be so damn picky on what it will shoot well. So far, back to old reliables for slugging.
