257 weatherby vanguard sporter accuracy update
« on: September 05, 2008, 11:14:42 AM »
Was shooting 1 1/4" from factory with 100 grain factory ammo. Free floated and new 3# trigger installed. 115 grain Wby ballistic tips shoot 3/4" groups. Bought a box of 100 grain Wby ammo and shot it today. Man, this thing shoots.
Three shots into a tiny clover leaf group of less than a 1/4". Hell, that is minute of chipmunk. The 100 grains are the ticket. Had to eliminate the human factor as much as possible by not putting any pressure on the stock and just letting my finger ease back on the trigger.  Will try to post a picture shortly, if I can figure out how....Now to order a few boxes of 100s of the same lot. ;D

Replacing the trigger on mine to a Timney made a huge difference in my accuracy. I, too am getting clover leaf groups with my handloads of Nosler Ballistic Tips in the 115 gr weight. I have the same caliber 257 Wby Vanguard sporter. I'm very pleased with mine.

Only thing I need now are deer tags!!

I will say this is the best groups I have ever shot. Had a Browning and a Ruger a few years back that would shoot 1/2" groups. It is obvious that the rifle is tuned right and loves the 100 grain ammo. The human factor is the only limiting factor now. ;)
