I'm not a fan of them either.
Look at what the target shooters use. There's a good reason for that. Square notches and undercut front blades are the hands down precision winner. Want speed? Something like an express or FA fibre could work, but don't expect the ultimate in accuracy. Bear in mind that trying to be precise with the bead type front sight can be sloooow (for me anyway). It all depends on what is acceptable for your needs.
For accuracy I also like to have a front blade that is at least 1/2 the width of the rear notch when taking a sight picutre and I prefer a little more. A little less light at the sides gives me more precise windage. For speed a bit more light is better and it allows you to see a little more of the target alongside the blade. There's a balance in there somewhere!
My ideal would be either a slightly undercut, or vertical front blade based on the 1/2 blade 1/2 light basis described above, with a fibre optic insert in the blade just a little below the top (so as to maintain the square outline of the blade). THe FA optic is almost like an express front bead and is NOT what I like (I bought one without seeing it first).
My IPSC gun is set up like I described, a blade with a fibre. I have the benefit of the square notch and square blade for the slower precision stuff and the fibre for the close up (crash

and) burn type stuff. It truely is the best of both worlds.
Here's an example from the Dawson website:
