If new the lock models will have the "L" on the case label and proberly have the black platic grip panels.  Not too darn difficult o remove a grip panel to check.  Not a big deal to me beign as unobtrusive and all that they are.  No different to me than havign a seatbelt in a car and deciding if I want to use it or not.   I'm one to get hung up on the whole "principle" of it.  ::)

Thanks for the info.

Some people at gun shows object to pulling out a screwdriver and taking their guns apart before you pay for them so it's nice to know how to tell the difference.  If your seatbelt malfunctions your car will still run - I wouldn't call it unobtrusive if your car wouldn't start because the seatbelt retracting spring failed.

Have yet to hear of ANY issues with the lock design from Ruger.  Remember also, a change of gripframe and hammer strut/spring elimnate the whole thing anyways and it's a very easy swap.
