Please help identify this slug barrel
« on: August 04, 2008, 01:14:02 AM »
Hello, everyone. I have a friend who bought a box of miscellaneous items at an estate sale and this barrel was in the box. We do not know what it fits and we have not been able to find anyone close to where we live that knows what shotgun it fits. We are pretty sure that it is for a pump shotgun as it does not have a gas port. What is strange is the ring near the breech end. Also it is a fully rifled barrel and the only markings say: 12 Ga.  3 inch  Made in USA.  Any help would be appreciated, thanks timetec

I'm not 100% sure on this, but it looks like a slug barrel for a benelli nova or the Stoeger pump gun.

I do not see any similarities to the Stoeger, however the sling attachment on the magazine tube ring does look like the Benelli Nova, but the rear portion that goes into the receiver on the Benelli is much longer. We would appreciate any and all suggestions. thanks, timetec

After looking @ it again, I'd bet you a dollar that's a Benelli Nova slug barrel.

The barrels you are thinking of (with the long extension on the breech side of the barrel) are for the semi-autos.

Check out the picture on this gunbroker auction.  I think you'll see it matches.

I would say you are right on the money. Everything looks the same except for the sights. Do you think that this might be a non Benelli barrel for the Nova, since it says "Made in USA" and the fact that the sights are different. It seems like I may have seen somewhere that Ithaca made have made barrels for the Nova. Once again, thanks for all the help, timetec.

Ithaca made both a cantilevered barrel and an open sight model for the Nova a few years back and they retailed through cabelas for about $160.00 or so.

This was the Ithaca gun company before the latest incarnation of Ithaca.  They made replacement barrels for some Remington models, Benelli's Nova and of course Ithaca 37's too.

I'm sure this is what you have and is probably worth a bit of money to the right buyer as slug barrels from Benelli are very expensive and these barrels were very accurate.
